Irresistible Boss Succumbing to Your Touch (Maria Anita) novel Chapter 3

Cam’s POV

It had been three days since Olivia and I had returned to our city, and I still hadn't found time to go to that storage facility to see what that woman who died had kept there. I needed to find time for this, but it was difficult, mainly because my father had his mind on the divorce, since the hearing had been scheduled and Rita showed up here making a scene when they wouldn't let her in, following my orders. And my father was temporarily living with me, as I had convinced him not to go to the farm and to move only after getting rid of Rita.

However, I wasn't focusing on work either, as my mind was on all this investigation business and I was very worried about my sister.

"You know what, as Oli says, let's make it happen," I said to myself as I decided to check out The Box.

I called my secretary and asked her to reschedule all my appointments, which she did quickly. I cleared all pending matters from my desk and told Oli to wait for me as we would go to that storage facility. She was as eager as I was. When I got home, she was already waiting for me at the gate.

The trip to the location was quick; in about an hour and a half, I parked the car in front of a gigantic warehouse with a small sign on the facade where the establishment's name was written in large block letters.

"Do you think we'll find answers here, Oli?" I looked at my wife somewhat uncertainly.

"We'll find out. But I have a good feeling about this," she said, and placed her hand over mine with a small smile.

We identified ourselves at reception, and the woman asked for the receipt, an ID, and the key. I presented everything, and she looked at me as if sizing me up, searched on the computer, and looked at me again.

"How did you get the key?" she asked, peering at me over her lime-green rimmed glasses.

"Rose, the storage unit owner, gave me the key before she passed away." It wasn't entirely a lie; she had died and her sister got the key, but then gave it to us. It didn’t matter that she didn’t know— there was no need for the receptionist to know that.

"Were you relatives?" The woman was asking too many questions.

"We were close," I limited myself to saying.

"I can't give you access; the key might have been stolen. You need to be the owner or a relative," the woman explained and returned the documents and key. I was ready to explode at her, but Oli put her hand on my arm.

"You're new here, aren't you?" Oli asked.

"I've been here for two years, ma'am," the woman replied, looking bored.

"Wow, I hadn't realized it had been so long since I came here," Oli said naturally and took out a key, a receipt, and an ID from her purse and handed them to the woman. "I want to see my storage unit. He's my husband."

The woman looked at both of us and checked the documents that Olivia handed her. She did something on the computer and returned everything.

"Do you know the location of your storage unit?" The woman asked and opened the automatic gate.

"Yes, I do, thank you. Shall we, dear?" Olivia pulled my arm. "Ah, I'll need one of the carts." The woman grabbed a key and handed it to Olivia.

We got out of the cart and Olivia opened her storage unit. I was quite amazed - it looked like a store, with clothing racks holding garments on hangers covered in plastic, accessories, two filing cabinets, a small closet, and some boxes. Everything was incredibly organized and miraculously clean.

"Why isn't there any dust in here?" I asked, quite impressed with how clean the place was.

"When I bought it, I had it hermetically sealed. Once the door is closed, nothing gets in. That way my things stay better preserved. These are memories from another life, Cam." Olivia looked around with a hint of nostalgia.

"Do you miss it?" I had always been afraid of not being enough for her. She had traveled the world, and I had watched her walk the runway many times - she was stunning, while I was just an ordinary man from a small town.

"I don't. But it was a good time that brought many good things, and I like having the memories," she smiled at me, grabbed two black boxes, and pulled me along. "Come on!"

We left there and walked to the end of the storage facility. We started looking for the number Olivia had seen on the computer, and finally, in the corner at the back wall, we found it. I inserted the key into the small door and opened it. It was indeed the size of a file drawer and was completely full.

"Put everything in these boxes as quickly as you can." Olivia handed me the boxes and kept watch.

After I emptied the storage unit, I locked it. We went back to Olivia's unit and entered again. She walked among her things, seeming to search for something. She found a box and smiled.

"I'm going to send this to Mel. She came to see me in Milan, I wore this in that show." Olivia opened the box to reveal a small purse completely embroidered with gemstones. It was small and beautiful. "Let's go!"

We put the boxes in the cart and returned to the entrance. She thanked the woman with lime-green glasses, and we left. I was curious to see what all those things were, but Olivia convinced me it would be better to wait until we got home. I was anxious - I wanted answers to so many questions, and they might all be there in my trunk.
