Irresistible Boss Succumbing to Your Touch (Maria Anita) novel Chapter 3

Flavian’s POV

After the manager gave me all the information about Sabrina and which hospital she had been taken to, I hung up the phone without saying a word. This would all be a huge mess.

"What's wrong, Flavian? Any problem with Manu?" Cam, seeing my haunted expression, immediately worried about his sister.

"No," I stammered. "I just hope this doesn't cause problems with Manu." I thought for a moment before speaking. "My unstable ex-wife took a large number of pills with alcohol, was taken unconscious to the hospital, and left a note asking them to call me."

"That's terrible!" Cam commented. "What are you going to do?"

"I need to go to the hospital, Cam. Despite everything, I was married to this crazy woman. I'll ask my father to notify her parents to come, but until they arrive, it wouldn't be right to leave her alone, don't you think?" I looked at him seeking approval.

"I think you should talk to Manu first." Olivia was right, I couldn't just rush to the hospital without talking to Manu.

"Yeah, Oli is right, but I agree with you, you have to go. Go ahead, I'll explain it to my sister." Cam was on my side.

"I'll call her on the way. Thanks." I got up and headed to the door, opening it just as Manu was about to put her key in the lock. "Little one, I'm so glad you're here!" I hugged her tightly.

"Hi, big guy, what's wrong?" Manu looked at me worriedly. I quickly explained what had happened. "Go, Flavian, we'll talk later."

"Manu, I..." I wanted to explain, wanted her to understand that I would do this for any human being.

"Go, Flavian! It's fine." She spoke, somewhat annoyed.

"No, it's not." I grabbed her hand and pulled her along. "She's coming with me!" I shouted over my shoulder to the others.

On the way to the hospital, I called my father and told him about Sabrina, asked him to notify her parents to come, and said I was on my way to the hospital.

"Manu, I feel responsible," I said after hanging up the phone.

"Why, Flavian? This woman will never leave us in peace if every time she makes a scene to get your attention, you come running after her." Manu was upset, and rightfully so.

"I know, Manu. But earlier today she called me, and I only answered because I didn't recognize the number. She threatened to kill herself if I didn't go to her. And I simply told her to go ahead and kill herself. Your brother was beside me when this happened. I feel responsible for this, Manu. Can you understand?" I was distressed between feeling guilty about Sabrina's foolishness and worried about Manu being angry with me.

"Oh, Flavian!" Manu huffed.

I stopped at a traffic light and turned to her, taking her face in my hands, making her look at me.

"Little one! You are my love! Nothing and no one is more important to me than you. But I feel responsible, and if I do not go, this will haunt me for the rest of my life. But if you disagree, we can go back home right now." I was looking into her eyes, heard the honking from the car behind me, the light was green, but I did not care, I just wanted her to decide. "What should I do, little one?"

"You know, Manuela, you and your family are remarkable." Manu looked at him curiously. "Your brother’s wife is none other than Olivia Ferrante, a very important name in the fashion world."

"Yes, Olivia has done great things. But we're very down-to-earth people, sir." Manu was formal and careful with her words when speaking to my father.

"Your brother invited me to visit your company and farms. Did he tell you? We might make an interesting partnership." My father was being unusually attentive to Manu, which surprised me.

"Actually, we haven't talked yet. Because of this incident with Sabrina, I haven't even gone inside the house. But if my brother decides that, I'm sure it would be an excellent deal. As I've already told you, sir, I don't get involved in company matters." Manu carried the conversation naturally, but in a very formal tone.

"Family of Sabrina Teles." The doctor entered the room, and I stood up, introducing myself.

"I'm her ex-husband. How is she?" I asked.

"She will recover. The dose was large, but not enough to cause the worst. The bigger problem was the large amount of alcohol in her system. We performed a gastric lavage, gave her medication to counteract what she took, and she's already in her room, but she's sleeping. Would you like to see her?" The doctor asked, and I nodded. He led us to the room where Sabrina was lying, looking serene, just a bit paler than usual.

"Will it take long for her to wake up?" my father asked.

"I believe at least two hours. But it depends on her system," the doctor replied and left.

I stood looking at Sabrina, thinking about the various motivations someone might have for such a desperate act. In Sabrina's case, it seemed like nothing more than wanting attention. But using something so serious to force me to come see her - that needed a psychiatrist. I would remember to suggest this to her family. Manu sat on the couch across from the bed, and my father left the room. I sat next to Manu and held her hand. I didn't know what to say to her.
