Irresistible Boss Succumbing to Your Touch (Maria Anita) novel Chapter 3

Manuela’s POV

The rest of the week passed in a blur. I had been worried about what my brother needed to tell me. He would arrive today and explain everything, but I had already decided what to do, and my brother would have to accept it. When my father's number flashed on my phone screen, I couldn't help but smile.

"Dad..." I answered cheerfully.

"Sweetheart! Dear, your brother told me you've been worried," he said, sounding concerned himself at that moment.

"You're making changes there, and I was caught off guard."

"Don't worry, darling, trust Cam. He will always take care of you and protect you." That I knew - Cam would throw himself in front of a train for me.

"I trust him. Are you coming today too?"

"No, Cam will spend a few days there, and I need to stay at the company. Manu, be careful, Rita is completely out of control."

"I'm scared of my mother, Dad."

"I know, sweetie, but I've put someone trustworthy to watch her, so we'll know if she leaves town. Just be careful - I don't want her to hurt you again."

"And your divorce? How's it going?"

"That's exactly why she's angry. Cam helped me protect the assets before I filed for divorce. All I have now is the house, the car, and some money in the bank. She'll only get the house, and she's furious about it. I hope that since I'm cutting off the money and the easy life, Julian will decide to work, since he dropped out of school long ago."

"I can already imagine her anger. But I doubt Julian will decide to do anything useful with his life."

"Exactly. So take care until things calm down." Someone called for my father and said something - I said goodbye to him and kept thinking about what he'd said, to take care until things calmed down, but when would that be?

At the end of the day, my brother and his wife arrived at the company with Flavian.

"Sister, you look like a grown-up behind that desk." I smiled at him; I had not expected him to come to the company, thinking he would go straight to the apartment.

"I am a grown-up!" I stood up to hug him.

"Not quite, and next to Flavian you look even smaller." My brother laughed, and I playfully slapped him, pretending to be angry.

Before heading home, we went out for dinner. Rick and Lexie came with us, and the evening was very pleasant as we talked, laughed, and had fun. By the end of dinner, Rick and Lexie had already convinced my brother and his wife to go out for a night on the town the next day, and all four were trying to convince Flavian and me to join them.

We got home late. My brother knew about my anxiety and asked if I wanted to talk, but I knew it was better to leave the conversation for the next morning. However, the next day, I was already up at the crack of dawn.

"Still up with the roosters, sister?" Cam appeared at the kitchen door, wearing a very elegant suit.

"You know how it is, old habits. But that suit is new." I pointed at him.

"Like it? I look hot, don't I?" I laughed; my brother was handsome and very funny.

"You're handsome either way, brother." I hugged him around the waist. "I miss you."

"I miss you too, but you're doing very well here. You fit in with the life you have here." He squeezed me in his embrace.

"I think so too, Cam." Flavian entered the kitchen, which suddenly felt too small for these two big men. "I want a hug too."

"Yes, but Grandpa left a letter to our father explaining why he did this. In the letter, Grandpa said he knew our father wouldn't be able to endure this marriage forever, and that in the event of a divorce, Rita would take half of everything. She and Julian would leave us in ruins because they had always been prone to wasting money. Remember that Julian had already dropped out of school?" I remembered that, and I remembered Grandpa saying Julian had his mother's bad character and was a spendthrift.

"Yes, Julian was always trouble," I commented.

"So Dad, who was already thinking about divorce, made a declaration completely renouncing his inheritance, leaving his assets to be divided equally between Grandpa's other heirs - you and me. Rita couldn't question this when she found out, Dad endured the marriage for over a year." Everything made sense.

"So it's all just yours and mine, and has been for over a year?" I was somewhat shocked by this discovery.

"Yes. It's a very large estate, Manu. We did everything in secret so Rita wouldn't find out before the divorce because she's going to be furious when she learns that the only thing she'll get from Dad is the house she lives in. And we decided not to tell you because you were already dealing with too much, and we knew you would react exactly like this when you found out. We wanted you to mature, and we knew that when you were ready, you would want to learn about everything." I was looking at my brother as if I had never seen him before.

"That's why you always insisted I should learn about the business," I responded, feeling dizzy.

"Yes. You're a very wealthy young woman, Manu, although I know that doesn't interest you, but it is what it is. Our grandfather took care of our future." My brother held my hand, and I took a deep breath, regaining clarity of thought.

"Fine, now how do we transfer everything to your name?" I was determined.

"That's not going to happen. We're going to continue in this together. You and I are siblings and partners; you won't get rid of me." My brother smiled beautifully at me.

"But if I have nothing, she'll leave me alone. Cam, I can't live in fear of being taken and forced to marry that pig of Calvin's son." This was something that terrified me.

"Sis, she won't leave you alone if you transfer everything to me. She'll be so angry she'll want to punish you." Cam showed me a perspective I hadn't considered.

"So what do I do?" I was tired of this situation.

"Keep taking care of yourself. I've already taken measures to protect your assets; she'll never be able to get her hands on anything. But I'll explain everything to you calmly later - after all, you have to go to work, and I have a business meeting." Cam spoke like an important man, but in front of me, I only saw my brother, who took care of me, taught me how to defend myself, and play video games.
