In Bed With Her Shithead Boss (By Ellie Wynters) novel Chapter 379

"I'm sorry," Amelia whispered. Not sure what else to say.

Theodore reached out and patted her hand, his touch surprisingly gentle for a man who commanded a nation. "No need for sorrow, my dear. The point is that sometimes there are no explanations, no clear answers. But that doesn't mean there's something wrong with you."

His words soothed a wound she hadn't realized was so raw. "The pressure feels overwhelming sometimes," she admitted.

"I know it does." The King's expression grew contemplative. "You know, my late wife and I went through similar struggles. After Alexei was born, we tried for years to have another child. We so wanted a girl."

Amelia leaned forward, hungry for this glimpse into the royal family's private history. "What happened?"

"Nothing happened. That was the difficult part." Theodore's eyes crinkled with the memory. "The doctors ran tests, offered advice, even suggested some rather unorthodox treatments. In the end, we had to accept that our family was complete with two sons."

"How did you... how did she cope with the disappointment?" Amelia asked.

Theodore smiled sadly. "Not always gracefully, I must admit. There were tears, arguments." He paused, his gaze meeting hers directly. "But we learned you can't control everything, Amelia. We loved each other. That was enough."

The word hung in the air between them. Love. The one thing she and Niko had never spoken of, never acknowledged. Their marriage had begun as an arrangement, had evolved into mutual respect and physical passion, but love... that remained uncharted territory.

"Did Niko tell you about our argument?" she asked quietly.

"No." Theodore shook his head. "He respects your privacy too much for that. But a father knows when his son is troubled."

Amelia took a deep breath. "I feel like I'm failing everyone… Niko, you, Wystovia."

"You could never fail us, my dear." Theodore's voice was firm. "You've been everything we could have hoped for in a princess. Your work with education reform is already making a difference. The people adore you."

"But without an heir—"

"An heir will come on its own time." Theodore leaned forward, his expression serious. "What matters more is that you and Niko don't lose each other in this process."
