Ellis’s
temper flared in an instant..

Easton was getting far too presumptuous.
Without even asking for my permission, he’d taken it upon himself to arrange for a maid? Was he starting to think of himself as the master of this house?
She gave him a smile that did not reach her eyes, her voice dripping with mockery. “You seem to like hanging around my house so much, doing this and managing that. Why don’t you just move upstairs and live with me? Join the maid in waiting on me. How about that?”
Easton had never experienced a pie falling from the sky, but these words? They were not a pie; they were a trap.
He was not foolish enough to be swayed by her surface–level bait. Calm and composed, he declined, “I’m afraid I wouldn’t serve you well. It’s always better to leave professional matters to professionals.
“Cut the act. Ellis’s face turned cold in an instant, her polite facade gone without a trace. “Do I have to spell it out for you? You’ve been coveting this for a long time. You want to live with me; better yet, climb into my bed, don’t you? And now that I’m giving you the chance, you put on this fake, sanctimonious act? Pathetic”
“Ellis, I think you’ve misunderstood something Easton’s gaze drifted towards the crack in the door, his voice steady. “Without your consent, I won’t presume to share your bed.”
“Oh, so when the hard approach doesn’t work, you’re trying the soft one now?” Ellis gave him a slow once–over. There wasn’t a trace of softness about him. The arrogance and superiority clung to him as naturally as breathing.
“Have I given you that impression?” Easton asked.
“… Ellis was speechless. She almost had to applaud.
Did Easton think that by playing the gentle card, I’d just give in? And besides, with his version of soft, how long could he even keep it up?
She scoffed openly, “Save it.”
With the way he was, even if he could act soft, it would not last long. Sooner or later, he would show his true colors.
Easton glanced down at his watch, then stepped aside slightly to clear a path for her. “You should head to work. Any later, and you’ll be late.”
The reminder left Ellis feeling strangely displaced, like she was the one intruding in her own home.
This is my apartment! I’ve paid the rent!
Stretching out her hand, she grabbed his tie without hesitation. “You keep showing up at my place; if I lose anything. I’m holding you responsible.”
She gave the tie a little tug, not with much force, just enough to signal that he should leave with her instead of lingering here
“No problem. I can afford it.” Easton’s tone, that infuriating, money–is–no–object arrogance, made her grip tighten instinctively
The tie grew taut around his neck, but Easton showed no sign of discomfort. He simply let her vent as she pleased.
Of course, she was not trying to strangle him. After tugging for a moment, Ellis let go of the tie with a cold laugh.
“Yeah, yeah, we all know you’re loaded. Mr. Hudson. But you’re also insufferable. With your personality? No woman will ever like you in this lifetime”
Easton’s expression did not waver. “As long as it’s not any woman but you, I can live with that”

“I am speaking normally. I’m just stating the facts. These kinds of words flowed from him far too naturally now. Admitting to his feelings no longer seemed like some insurmountable challenge. But saying them out loud in front of her? Easton was not quite ready for that step.
“What a freak.” She turned and strode toward the door, leaving him behind without a second glance.
Hopefully. Easton hadn’t really lost his mind. If he kept saying things like that, I don’t know how long I could hold back the urge to beat him senseless.
Head pounding. Ellis finally cleared her mind after arriving at the office.
e never lasted long.
But peace
Soon, her phone lit up with a call from Easton’s mother, Sophia,
“Ellis, my birthday’s next week. I’m hosting a little party. Don’t forget to come, Sophia reminded her warmly.
Ellis would not have believed it if anyone told her that this call was free of Easton’s meddling
Rubbing her temples, she replied politely, “Of course. Wishing you a happy birthday in advance, Madam Sophia
“You must be at work by now, right?” Glancing sideways at her son, Sophia chuckled, “I won’t keep you.
After the call ended. Ellis’s mood remained indifferent. She was not exactly annoyed. After all. Sophia had always treated her kindly. Even if she knew full well that this kindness was for the sake of her son. Well, she’d just grit her teeth and bear it.
Setting her phone down, Sophia turned to her son with a sharp look. “Honestly, you’re useless. You’ve been divorced from Ellis for nearly a year, and you still haven’t convinced her to remarry you.”
It was not that she looked down on her son, but his progress really was slow to the point of frustration.
Then again, it was precisely what she expected..
Back when Easton had fought tooth and nail to prevent the divorce, some of his tactics had been downright shameful, making Ellis feel aggrieved and wronged.
If Ellis were to forgive him and remarry so easily, that would have been surprising.
“I’ve already managed to move into the place where she’s living.” Easton thought to himself, lips curving in determination. If he kept working at it, it wouldn’t be long before he found a chance to stay overnight in Ellis’s room.
