Chapter 463 Ten Million Only?
He was more than willing to help. In fact, whenever she asked him to do something, he was in a good mood. If he was happy playing the role of her servant and taking orders from her, that wasn’t her problem.
Take she sand, she never forced him.
The doorbell rang suddenly. Maya instinctively looked toward the door with a wary expression. You don’t think it’s Cameron’s mother again, do you?
“It’s not her. It’s Easton, Ellis corrected. She gently pushed Maya’s head off her shoulder and got up to open the door.
The moment the door swing open and she saw Easton standing there, she gave has a cold look. “You know, you don’t always have to put on a show and ring the bell. You could just come in
He clearly had access to the door, yet he insisted on gong through the motions. She’d opened the door for him so many times it was getting annoying.
Easton stepped inside, glanced briefly at Maya, and lowered his voice. “Maya’s here. It would’ve been ride if I had just walked in. If it were just you, that’d be ditterem.”
“Didn’t think you cared much about manners. Ellis said, her ryes sweeping over him with subtle sarcasm. “So manners for everyone else, but not for me, luh?”
“That’s not it You’re not like everyone else With Maya in the room. Easton stopped himself from saying more. How could he treat the woman he loved like everyone chel
“Save n” Ellis said, not interested in listening to him spout more nonsense about how much he loved her. The last thing she needed was another round of those stupid confessions.
Maya looked between her friend and Easton and asked. “Ellis, you called Easton here?”
“As if I would“” Ellis snapped, not hiding her irritation. “He just shows up on his own!”
She had never invited Easton to her place. If anything, he acted like the house was his, as if he were just waiting for the chance to move in and officially, become the man of the house. She couldn’t understand how he could be so shameless.
Sometimes, she felt open his brain and see how shameless he could be. He was nothing like the man she used to know. These days, he was increasingly shameless and impossible to shake.
Maya stayed quiet and shifted to the single–seat sofa.
Because Ellis had taken a seat to her right. Easton sat on Ellis‘ other side, turning the three of them into an awkward lineup on the same couch. Maya wasn’t even in the middle, yet she felt like a third wheel.
Ellis blinked in surprise at Maya’s sudden movement. Giving Easton more room but that being a little too consideratet
She glanced at Maya silently. But Maya hadn’t done anything wrong, and she was her best friend, so glaring wasn’t an option.
Acting as if nothing happened. Ellis turned her head toward Easton, who was now sitting right next to her. “There are three couches in this room. You really had to sit on this one?”
Easton wanted to say “yes,” but seeing the displeasure in her eyes, he decided to keep his mouth shut.
He used to wonder why Ellis clung to him like a koala back when they were together. Now that the roles were reversed, he understood completely.
He knew she would never initiate closeness again, so the only way to reduce the emotional distance between them and find sottie peace of mind was to do it himself
When Easton said nothing and didn’t move. Ellis instantly knew what he was up to
She shifted her body slightly putting more space between them.

A second later, she suppressed her dislike for Easton, remembering the reason she had called him in the first place. She quickly changed the topic. “Cameron’s mom brought Maya ten million dollars. The message was pretty clear. She wants to throw some hush money and be done with it.”
“Just ten million? And you agreed to it? Easton turned slightly to look at the girl beside him.
Maya was speechless.
“Do you ever think before you speak?” Ellis raised a clenched fist, a silent threat that said if he kept running his mouth, she’d kick him out, or worse, punch him.
Ten million sounds like a lot, Easton admitted after a moment of thought. “But if you want the child to have a good life, it’s [[not enough.”
At once, Ellis felt that familiar frustration whenever she tried to talk to Easton. Sure, he was the CEO of Hudson Group. It made sense that ten million wouldn’t mean much to him. But what he brushed off as pocket change was the kind of money Jordinary people like them would have to work their whole lives to earn.
Expecting him to see things from their perspective, to value money the way they did, was probably a lost cause. She hated the way he always looked down on others. But at the same time, she couldn’t deny that someone like him had no reason to lower himself and see eye–to–eye with people struggling just to survive.
Anger bubbled up inside her. She turned her face away, unwilling to meet Easton’s gaze, afraid that if she listened to one more arrogant word out of his mouth, she might actually punch him and teach him a lesson about how to talk like a decent human being
