Throughout the conversation, Zane never asked who Mia was, sitting beside Mr. Gordts.
It wasn't until they finished discussing business that Mr. Gordts changed the topic. "Mr. Lawrence, do you know Mia?"
Zane glanced at Mia's face, who was sitting next to Mr. Gordts, and said, "I've met Miss Read a few times before, but I'm not sure about her relationship with Mr. Gordts..."
Zane didn't finish his sentence, waiting for Mr. Gordts to introduce her.
Mr. Gordts smiled and replied, "Subordinate and superior, that's our relationship."
Zane didn't say much after hearing Mr. Gordts' response.
Sometimes, certain relationships didn't necessarily need to be spelled out to be proven.
Although Zane didn't have the same preferences as Mr. Gordts, he had worked with many people and encountered all sorts of individuals.
Many people displayed a colorful exterior while their personal lives were in shambles.
"Mr. Lawrence, if you have time tonight, let's have dinner together. I owe you for this matter. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to handle it alone," Mr. Gordts said to Zane.
Zane politely declined, "I'm sorry, but I have plans tonight. I won't be able to join you."
Mr. Gordts expressed some regret upon hearing this, but since Zane had already declined, he didn't push further. "Then another time. I'll treat you to a meal."
Zane nodded. "Sure, another time."
After settling all the matters, they chatted for a while. Zane then had Albi escort Mr. Gordts and Mia out.
"Albi, where's the restroom around here?" Mia turned to Albi and asked as they reached the elevator.
Upon hearing Mia's question, Albi naturally pointed in the direction. "Go straight ahead and turn right, you'll find it."
Mia nodded and then looked at Mr. Gordts, whispering, "Mr. Gordts, you go ahead, I'll join you shortly."
Mr. Gordts acknowledged and entered the elevator while continuing to chat with Albi.
Once Albi and Mr. Gordts were in the elevator, Mia turned and walked toward the restroom.
However, instead of going inside, Mia stopped at the sink and quickly touched up her makeup before leaving the restroom.
Glancing at the busy work area, with everyone occupied, Mia confidently made her way to Zane's office.
Since the door to Zane's office was left open when Mr. Gordts and the others left, Mia entered without anyone noticing and closed the door behind her.
Zane was on the phone by the window and didn't notice anyone entering until he caught a strange scent.
Turning around, he saw Mia in his office, wondering when she had come in. Zane's expression instantly froze.
"Just a moment," Zane was in the middle of a conversation with Yanis on the phone. He greeted her briefly before ending the call.
After hanging up with Yanis, Zane's expression turned cold, and he looked at Mia with a stern gaze. "What do you want?"
Mia had heard about Zane's ruthless methods and witnessed them before, but now she had no way out and didn't care about her reputation anymore.
"Mr. Lawrence, I need your help with something," Mia said, looking at Zane.
Zane looked at Mia coolly. "You should go to Mr. Gordts for help; I can't assist you."
Without waiting for Mia to explain what she needed help with, Zane quickly refused.
Mia took a step forward, intending to approach Zane, but Zane took a big step back. "Miss Read."
This was only the second time in Zane's life that he had been threatened by a woman.
Years ago, Neve had threatened him because he wanted to protect Anika, so he let Neve manipulate him.
But now, how could Zane allow himself to be threatened by someone who meant nothing to him?
So, after Mia's words, Zane coldly replied, "Then you can give it a try."
Mia didn't expect Zane to be so resolute.
"Mr. Lawrence, aren't you worried that Mrs. Lawrence will be resentful if she finds out?" Mia's words made Zane's expression even colder.
However, he didn't
show any signs of being affected by Mia's words.
"Well, you can try. Let's see how she reacts to you," Zane said, confident that Yanis was a discerning person.
Thus, he had the confidence that Yanis wouldn't be swayed by Mia's little tricks.
The secretary quickly called for security guards.
The guards were startled when they entered the office and witnessed the scene.
"What are you waiting for?" Zane looked at the guards standing dumbfounded at the door and said coldly.
Upon hearing Zane's words, the guards hurried forward to pull Mia away from Zane.
But before they could reach them, Mia suddenly raised her hand and took off her coat.
