After Thane announced there was a ball, preparations begun. The castle was bustling with activities and I was picking out dresses for the ball.
The royal seamstress showed me designs and I didn't know what to pick.
"Damia, which one should I pick between this two"
"The one you like the best" I slapped my hands in my face and the seamstress giggled.
I tried to mind link Thane but, something was blocking me. I kept pushing until my head started hurting. The small throbbing at the back of my skull graduated to a pounding. It felt like a thousand hammers were slammed on my skull.
"My queen, you're bleeding" I touched my nose and looked at my fingers and they were bloody. I gripped the table tightly as I stood up.
"My queen" I saw the seamstress rushing to me just before I collapsed.
I groaned as I opened my eyes. It sounded like people were arguing in the corner. They stopped as I adjusted in bed.
"Baby, how do you feel" he helped me sit up.
"Fine. What happened to me"
"You were trying to force yourself through my walls" I looked at him confused.
"When you tried to mind link me, you felt resistance" I nodded.
"My walls were up. It prevents people from mind linking me"
"Why didn't you want me to mind link you and why can't I put my walls up"
"I was in an important meeting and why the fuck do you want to put your walls up. I'm the only person you can mind link"
"It's not fair you can do it and I can't"
"Learning to do it takes a lot of practice and energy. It'll hurt you if you do it. Only a small amount of werewolves can do it perfectly without getting hurt"
"It's because I'm a halfbreed right" I sighed.
"Since you can't learn how to put your walls up, I can teach you to stop us from reading your mind" I looked at Jairus. This was the first time he had spoken since I woke up.
"Really" I was smiling widely.
"Jairus" Thane's tone sounded reprimanding. Jairus ignored him and came to me.
"Once you have rested enough, I'll teach you how"
"Thank you" I hugged him tightly and he chuckled. Thane pulled me away from him and put me on his laps.
"Didn't you have somewhere to go" Jairus gave his father a glare and stood up.
He smiled sweetly at me. "I'll see you later" he kissed my cheeks and left the room.
"Is there a problem between you two?" I straddled him as I turned to face him.
He shrugged. "You guys ought to get along" he still didn't say anything. I looked up at him and he kissed my nose. I figured he didn't want to talk about their problem so I let it go.
"Are you sure I can't have Lily back"
"The new one is perfect for you"
"I'm not happy with her. It's Lily I want"
"Nothing is happening" I looked at Thane.
"You're still going on with it"
"I said drop it" Thane now spoke through gritted teeth and he sounded annoyed.
"It's okay. You don't have to answer" I didn't want them to argue.
"I can't fucking believe you" Jairus slammed his hands on the table and stood up. I had never seen him this mad.
"Don't fucking talk to me like that" Thane stood up. Things were escalating quickly.
"Guys, please stop"
"You have the nerve" the two of them were in each others faces now screaming at each other. If I knew this would have happened, I wouldn't have asked about the goddamned thing. A few guards came in but none of them wanted to come in between them.
Thane punched Jairus and he crashed into the table and that was when I snapped.
"CAN THE BOTH OF YOU JUST STOP" all eyes turned to me. "I just wanted you two to get over your differences at least for today. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to ask the goddamned question but I did. And I asked you to forget about it. But you just let your fucking egos get in the way and now the fucking dinner is ruined" I was so furious right now. Thane ran his hands through his hair and Jairus tried to stop me as I walked away.
I pushed his hands away and stormed to my room. I took in deep breaths to calm myself. It was my fault the argument started anyways. I sighed and sat in my bed. Thane entered a few moments but I ignored him. I pulled the blanket over my shoulders and closed my eyes to sleep.
After a while, the door was slammed closed. I opened my eyes and looked around, he had left the room. I took a quick shower and settled into bed to sleep.
Thane didn't come back to the room again. I woke up in the night and reached for him but his side of the bed was empty and cold. Going back to sleep after that was difficult but I managed.
He still wasn't there the next morning.
