“Good. I’ll be counting on you,” Curtis replied.
Alright Golf Club was rather far away from town. Hence, it took an hour of driving for Rayna to get there.
When she asked the person in charge there if Wyatt was around, he said Wyatt had left ten minutes ago after golfing with clients during the afternoon.
She cursed in her mind before driving to the club.
For the whole afternoon, she had been traveling from one location to another. She went from the Lopez residence to Lopez Group, Sanders Group, the golf club, and, finally, Wyatt’s club. By the time she arrived, it was already half past seven in the evening.
The manager on duty that day recognized Rayna and relayed a piece of bad news to her. “Mr. Lopez only dropped off his clients here and asked us to serve them. He left half an hour ago.”
I missed him! Again! Rayna was furious, but she still asked collectedly, “Do you know where he lives? Or if he’ll return later during the night?”
“I don’t know where he lives,” the manager answered. “Occasionally, he’ll come over to chat with clients. When he doesn’t, he’ll ask the club to send them back home.”
She responded with enraged silence.
Sensing she was in a bad mood, he said, “You seem to be searching for Mr. Lopez due to an urgent matter. How about you wait for him here? I’ll contact you once he arrives.”
“Fine.” After running around for the whole afternoon, she was tired and hungry. “Do you have any seats left in the restaurant? I want to eat something.”
“Yes, we do. I’ll take you there.”
Rayna ordered many dishes, including roast fish. Once her food was served, she dug in eagerly.
As she ate, she complimented the chef Wyatt hired in her mind. This fish is absolutely delicious, especially the sauce!
Halfway through her meal, a waiter rushed to her side and apologized, “I’m sorry, miss! The chef accidentally messed up the sauce and ruined the taste! I’ll change it for you right away!”
“Is it? I think it’s pretty great.” Rayna took another bite of the fish. “I even want to praise your chef’s skills because this is too good.”
“Ah.” The waiter then asked carefully, “You don’t think it tastes too sour, miss?”
“Nope!”
He felt like he had just asked a stupid question. Her expression didn’t change at all when she took a bite, so why would she think the sauce tastes sour?
After he returned to the kitchen, the plump chef asked anxiously, “How did it go? The customer wasn’t angry, was she? Quickly, serve her this roast fish I have remade.”
“There’s no need,” the waiter replied.
The chef took in a deep breath. “She’s not filing a complaint against me, is she? I’ll apologize to her right away.”
As he spoke, he was about to bring the roast fish he had prepared out of the kitchen.
However, the waiter stopped him and delivered him a stack of cash. “The customer said she loved the roast fish. This is the reward for you.”
“She doesn’t think it tastes sour?” It was then the kitchen helper approached them in shock. “I didn’t notice I accidentally poured too much lemon juice into the sauce earlier. But when I did and tasted it, I thought it was so sour that my teeth were going to fall off!”
in response, the waiter shrugged. “She didn’t think it was sour, considering she took a bite in front of me without changing her expression.”
“Does she have a problem with her sense of taste?”
“Her sense of taste is fine!” The waiter rolled his eyes at the kitchen helper. “Also, she mentioned the sweet and sour ribs weren’t sour enough and that she hopes the next time she orders it, it’ll be less sweet. Got it?”
Rubbing his nose, the kitchen helper smiled. “This lady has a really high tolerance for sourness, huh?”
“Fine, fine. Just get it done quickly.”
A few minutes later, the waiter delivered Rayna the smoothie.
She was surprised. “Did you get my orders wrong? I didn’t ask for a smoothie.”
“The chef requested me to present it to you as thanks for liking his roast fish.” He spun a clever response on the spot. “This smoothie was passionately prepared by the chef. Believe me when I say it’s delightfully tasty.”
Rayna’s appetite for the smoothie was roused when she took in the plain fragrance of the beverage. Without hesitation, she handed the waiter another stack of cash.
The smoothie had a simple taste, but she loved it the moment she took a sip.
After she finished her meal, she sat on her chair, unwilling to move.
As Rayna rested in the restaurant for a long time, she used her phone to take care of some stuff.
When it was nine at night, she asked for the manager. “Is Mr. Lopez back yet?”
“He hasn’t,” the manager replied. “The clients had left, so I don’t think Mr. Lopez will return tonight. Do you want me to send you back? I’ll notify you in advance if Mr. Lopez is visiting next time.”
“No need. I drove here.” Rayna waved. Well, there’s nothing I can do if Wyatt’s not coming. Still, I had a fantastic meal here tonight, so I’m feeling pretty good.
As she left the restaurant in her coat, she saw a few men being led into the club on the first floor’s corridor.
One of the men was someone she was familiar with.
“Mr. Snyder,” she greeted.
