Although Felix was from her home country of Aldonia, his sci-fi novels—especially Galactic Echoes—were massive bestsellers there. It only made sense for him to hold a book signing in Aldonia.
Niamh was a fan herself, and Felix's editor had personally invited her to attend. Although he had harassed her once before, this was a public book signing. She figured he wouldn't dare try anything in front of so many people. Besides, she had brought two bodyguards with her this time.
Felix was undoubtedly the literary world's current hot ticket, especially in Aldonia. As Niamh followed the lead editor through the venue, she saw promotional materials for Galactic Echoes and Felix everywhere.
The event was held in the Royal Ballroom of a grand international hotel, with most of the invited guests being Aldonian elites, along with a few lucky prize-winning readers.
Among the crowd, Niamh was surprised to see Ramona. While Ramona wasn't wearing a revealing evening gown, her tailored suit was still dazzlingly bright—a brilliant rose-pink that made her impossible to miss.
Niamh didn't believe for a second that Ramona was a fan of Felix's books. A strange, ominous feeling began to creep into her heart.
The book signing proceeded as planned. The fourth item on the agenda was a speech by Felix himself. He spoke with great passion, delivering a series of what sounded to Niamh like grand, hollow platitudes.
"And finally... I would like to announce a very important decision to all my readers and to the esteemed industry professionals here today..." Felix paused for dramatic effect, and the entire ballroom fell silent.
Niamh looked up at him on the stage. For a brief moment, their eyes met. Then, she saw him give her a malicious smile. The look sent a shiver down her spine.
