"Not in all my years with the Quinn family. But whether the Quinn patriarch had dealings with that kind of syndicate behind the scenes, I couldn't say."
"I see. Thanks, Carlisle."
"I wasn't much help… Oh, by the way, did you hear that the Quinn patriarch was hospitalized?"
Hospitalized? Niamh froze. "What happened to him?" She used the word "him," not "Grandfather."
Carlisle sighed silently on the other end of the line. He knew Niamh still hated the Quinn patriarch. "He was hospitalized because your ex-husband infuriated him."
"Jonathan?" Niamh was shocked.
"But Jonathan didn't know about his heart condition, so you can't really blame him. He accompanied him to the hospital that day, and the Quinn patriarch's condition stabilized quickly. But the doctors recommended he stay for a while to recover… Hayes probably called you about it."
Carlisle's words jogged Niamh's memory. Hayes had called her a few times, but she hadn't answered, and he must have decided to stop trying. "So that's what happened…" Niamh murmured. At the time, she'd thought the Quinn patriarch had detained Jonathan at the family estate!
Seeing that Niamh had little to say on the matter, Carlisle continued, "Aren't you curious?"
"Curious about what?"
