The space-gray Koenigsegg cut through the city like a phantom. Above, the sky mirrored the car’s paint, a heavy, oppressive gray. Even inside the car, the low pressure before a storm was palpable.
Niamh glanced at Jonathan. His chiseled profile was as cold and remote as a statue, as if something had displeased him.
“You used information about the fake Jarrett to trick me into your car,” she said flatly. “If you don’t start talking, I’m jumping out.”
Her words drew a calm smile from him. “At this speed? Are you tired of living?”
Niamh pressed her lips together.
“Besides, I didn’t trick you. I really do have information on the fake Jarrett.” Jonathan proceeded to tell her everything Prescott had uncovered. In the end, Prescott hadn't managed to get a photo of 'Joker,' but by piecing together various clues, he concluded that the fake Jarrett was, in fact, Joker.
Joker was the second-in-command of The Vipers' Nest, a powerful faction within the Blackspire organization. He was also a killer.
Though not a genetics expert like the real Jarrett, he was a quick study, capable of easily acquiring advanced certifications in numerous fields, which made him highly valued by Drake, the leader of The Vipers' Nest.
“There were traces of transfers into his private, hidden account… the money came from Marina,” Jonathan explained, his gaze fixed on the road. “The real Jarrett was also killed by The Vipers' Nest… It’s reasonable to believe Joker was the one helping Marina when she tried to harm you… Niamh…” He turned to look at her. “Have you ever crossed The Vipers' Nest? Or do you have some personal history with this Joker?”
Niamh’s expression grew serious, her brow furrowed in thought. Based on Jonathan's intelligence, this man named Joker seemed to be targeting her specifically—from helping Marina to getting close to Lana and shorting The Thomas Group.
