Edward’s words brought about whispers, good and bad. Many of the executives thought his words were a bit overboard, while other thought that the situation couldn’t have been addressed better.
Amara on the other hand, thought his wonders to be utterly ridiculous.
“Step down you say,” She cocked her head to the side, eyeing the executive from top to bottom. “For who? You? You think you can do a better job?”
Perhaps it was the certainty in her voice, or the way her gaze made him feel, but the executive suddenly felt small, like an ant before a giant.
But he didn’t back down. He swallowed thickly, squared his shoulders and continued to challenge Amara. “Anybody who can see that half a billion isn’t enough to run Synergy’s monthly deals, would run this company better that you. I mean look around,” He gestured at the table. “How do you expect our pockets to be funded with so little money.”
She smiled. “So, your worry is your pocket?”
Edward chuckled and a few other followed. “Who doesn’t worry about their pocket, Ms. Miller.”
“Fair. Since that is your worry, there’s no need to kick up such a fuss. Although, in your words that is, half a billion isn’t sufficient enough, I can guarantee that each and everyone of you will get a fat paycheck. Fatter than your previous ones.” Her eyes roamed the board room, locking with each and every executive present. “If the company’s account can’t ensure that, I personally will. Okay?”
Another way of whispers filled the room, executives glanced at the seat partner, whispering and nodding before they turned to look at Amara with a new expression on their faces.
They were satisfied with what she had just said. Those bastards, they only ever cared about their pockets!
Making a mental note to find better executives in the future, Amara concluded. “If that solves the concern and main purpose of this meeting, then I believe there’s no need for this to go on. You may all take your leave.”
With the sound of screeching chair legs and footsteps, the boardroom was emptied, leaving only Amara and Edward in it.
The two stood at the center of the room, eyes locked in a challenge.
Amara was the first to speak. “I take it that you’re the one who called for this meeting?”
That was about the last straw. Amara snapped, no, she was near snapping when Duncan suddenly stepped into the board room.
“Ms. Miller,” Walking up to her, brown folder in his hand, Duncan gently pulled Amara a few feet away and presented the folder to her. “Please look at this.”
What perfect timing, was what Amara would sarcastically have thought, if the content of the folder had not been more than she could ever have imagined.
Inside the folder was a picture of Edward and Jasper…kissing.
The picture was clearly taken from the CCTV, it was slightly pixelated, but the two were still recognizable.
Below that was another image, this one was clearer, showing the two as they held hands and walked out of a hotel.
And below those images, was a small background detail. Reading the first paragraph was enough to let Amara know that Jasper was Edward’s secret lover.
