"Don't go in there, just call the cops," she pleaded, clutching Casper’s arm tightly, clearly spooked by what might be inside the bag. "A bag like that definitely isn’t holding trash."
"It’s okay, I’ll take a look first. If it’s something serious, we can call the police afterward."
Both had the same unspoken thought... a body.
Eliza hid behind Casper, trembling with fear.
Carefully, Casper approached the bag and gave it a nudge with his foot.
It was heavy and wouldn’t budge.
"What is it?" Eliza's voice wavered as she grew more scared, "What does it feel like?"
Casper had a gut feeling.
But he wasn’t sure, "I’ll open it. Cover your eyes."
He grabbed a corner of the bag, found the zipper, and slowly unzipped the red and white striped fabric bag...
Suddenly, a horrible stench hit them.
Eliza quickly covered her mouth and nose. She hadn’t seen inside yet but already guessed, "Is it really what I think it is?"
"It is." Casper saw the face inside, "It looks like... Kate."
A chill ran through Eliza.
Kate?
She glanced inside, caught sight of the bruised, pale face, and quickly turned away.
It really was Kate.
How did she end up discarded out here?
Who killed her?
"How could it be her?" The first person Eliza thought of was Daniel. "Could Daniel have done this?"
"It’s not that I know her well. Her affairs aren’t exactly a secret. Do you think Daniel didn’t know? He just saw himself as the richest and most special one."
Daniel was drawn to Kate’s youth and beauty, hoping to be her last man.
But to Kate, he was just another option, more capable maybe, but not the only choice.
The moment a man more capable than Daniel showed up, she’d drop everything and chase after him without hesitation.
Casper was proof of that.
Eliza suddenly had a thought.
"Do you think it could’ve been her childhood sweetheart, unable to handle her jumping from one man to another, who ended up killing her?"
Casper wasn’t sure.
At its core, this wasn’t their problem.
He hoped Eliza wouldn’t get too wrapped up in it, "The police will get to the bottom of it. Whoever did this had their reasons. Let’s head back."
