His Destructive, Toxic Love novel Chapter 715

Casper just sat there, eyes narrowed, watching her without uttering a word.

Her eyes were red with urgency, and she blurted out, "Is Ms. Eliza... did she choke or something? I did all I could, don't hold it against me, please. In that moment, saving her life was all I could think of."

Even though Eliza was right there in the room, she heard every word Kate said loud and clear.

So, she threw herself into the river, just for Casper's benefit. Was she trying to play the hero, thinking she could make demands of Casper later? Kate sure had a few tricks up her sleeve.

"Casper, let Kate come in," Eliza's voice cut through the tension.

Casper paused briefly before stepping aside from the door. "Come on in, let's hear it."

As Kate walked past Casper, she made a show of sneezing. The room was cozy and warm, yet she pulled her coat tighter around herself, playing up her fragility.

"Ms. Eliza... oh, I mean, Mrs. Welton, I'm so relieved to see you're okay. My boat went out of control and crashed into yours, I was terrified, and I felt so guilty. I'm just glad you're alright."

Eliza's lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Kate, you've got quite the acting chops, don't you? Quite the performance."

"What are you implying, Mrs. Welton?" Kate put on a look of hurt and disbelief, as if her good intentions were being dismissed. "My boat went haywire, I was worried sick about you, and jumped in to help. What did I do wrong? How am I acting?"

Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears, all for Casper to witness. She figured this was when Casper should step in and speak up for her, so she turned to him, "Casper, do you think I did something wrong?"

Casper's gaze was icy. "I think... my wife has it spot on."

Kate: ...

She blinked, stunned.

Eliza chuckled as she stood, "Kate, do you really think you're that clever? I’ll give you this, you’ve put a lot of effort into this charade, but frankly, your little antics are just plain funny to us."

"Get out!" Casper barked.

"Casper..."

"Don't make me say it again!"

Kate stormed out, empty-handed and furious. As soon as she stepped out, the door slammed shut behind her with a loud 'bang.'

"I won't back down. Just wait," Kate fumed, stomping her foot in anger.

Inside the room, Casper pulled out his phone and dialed Daniel. His words were sharp, throwing around terms like "shameless" and "brazen."

On the other end, Daniel, who was in the middle of discussing divorce papers with Renee, nearly dropped his phone at Casper's call.
