Winnie had a few comfortable days, without outside interference. Brian did not come to bother her, and she had peaceful time expect that she missed her children and Brian.
She was right to leave, because relationship was not all her life and she should not take relationship priority. She wanted to work for her family. Even if she could not get over Brain, she could hide him in her heart.
At noon Winnie went to the canteen with her classmates. Before she could reach the canteen, there was a classmate came to her.
“Winnie, someone at the school gate wants to see you.”
“Wants to see me?”
Winnie was not familiar with this classmate, but when he said that, she thought it was Finn.
“Yes, a man.”
He added, and Winnie was more sure that it was Finn.
Finn had been in B City, and except Finn, no one knew she was here. But Winnie had doubt, why Finn did not call her, but came to her.
Afraid of Finn waiting too long, Winnie hurried toward the school gate.
Seeing the person at the school gate, Winnie froze.
“How could it be him?”
She asked herself in surprise and confusion. How did he find her here? On the day of separation, she made it very clear that she did not have contact with him.
And the current situation was hard to explain. She was at Police University in uniform. What kind of excuse should she say?
Winnie stood there hesitating. If she now turned back, if she argued with him, Winnie would expose her heart.
These actions were evidence of her love for him. So when she saw Brian, she could only talk with him as if she were an old friend.
Thinking of that, Winnie showed a smile, and then went to Brian.
“Why are you here? How do you know I am here?”
Winnie gave a relaxing smile without nostalgia for the past. She did not show her love for Brian, and just felt like meeting an old friend.
Brian did not want to see that. It made him panic, as if she had got him over.
“Why are you wearing a police uniform?”
Brian did not if he should tell the truth, or find a reason to deceive Winnie.
“I study here, of course I have to wear uniform. Are you here on business?”
Winnie didn’t know how Brian came over, but she knew she did not have a good reason for her uniform.
“Your work is busy, why do you still go to school? Because you are angry what I found a school for Wendy?”
Brian didn’t understand why Winnie had to do so.
What did it mean? Was she to change her job and to stay away from him?
Winnie gave an irony smile.
“That was before, I had a problem in my brian and got myself involved in other people's affairs. But it made me realize that I was a lonely individual. Everyone else is protected, and I can only protect myself. So as a policewoman, I can protect myself.”
“There was another reason why I came to school. Remember? I swore before you that I don't need your help, so I have to prove myself.”
“But now I think I am childish and it was unnecessary.”
Winnie felt that she said much. If she said that with a common friend, she would leave him bad impression. She told herself that speaking was a skill, especially in front of Brian, she had to think twice before she spoke it out.
“Winwin, this job is too dangerous. You can tell me what you are not satisfied with and what you are disappointed in. I will change it. You can't join the profession.”
“You are not a lonely individual, you have me and I can protect you. You can prove yourself, and now you...”
Brian heard clearly Winnie’s words and she wanted to prove herself because she was angry withi him. But he objected to Winnie proving herself in this profession, she was a woman to be protected.
Brian objected, but Winnie felt it was a joke.
“Don't be kidding. You can't do anything wrong. Mr. Bennet, I don't need you to worry about me. If you have energy, you should put it on a weak woman like Wendy.”
“I have a class, I gotta go first.”
Winnie turned around, and Brian said behind her.
“Winwin, can you listen to me? I promised you I wouldn't be with Wendy and I will keep my words, but I need you to understand me. After all, she saved my life, and I can't be ungrateful.”
Brian guaranteed that there was nothing between him and Wendy, and told Winnie why he connived at Wendy. He had no feelings for Wendy and he hoped Winnie could understand him.
Hearing his words, Winnie turned back in anger.
“You can't be ungrateful. Please don't honor her, thank her, protect her on the basis of hurting me. I haven't owed you anything since I was pregnant, and you can't be so ungrateful to me. Listen, I won't let you hurt me any more.”
He couldn't possibly fail to do what was sure to happen. From now on Wendy should pray very hard, or she would be completely destroyed.
In the evening
Wendy went home, looking dejected.
“Why did you come back by yourself? Didn't you take Annd to the movies? Where's she?”
Wendy’s mother asked, while looking behind Wendy.
Wendy did not answer because she did not know how to answer and was afraid of being scolded if she did. The child was taken away by Jonny, but she did not have the passion and she did not feel at ease.
She explained to herself that she was sad that the child was taken away, not that she had no confidence in herself for Brian.
“I am talking to you.”
Wendy’s mother urged her seeing that she was upet.
“Mom, I'm tired.”
Wendy spoke, but it had nothing to do with the question.
Wendy went upstairs, followed by her mother, who was worried.
“What kind of answer is that? What does it matter to the child whether you are tired or not? I asked you where the child is. Why isn’t she back?”
Wendy’s mother was unavoidably worried. Two people went out and only Wendy came back and she looked upset.
Wendy’s mother asked Wendy in her bedroom, but Wendy still did not give an answer. Wendy’s mother was anxious and pushed Wendy.
“You didn't hear me? Where's the child?”
Shouted Wendy’s mother, as her voice increased, she got angrier.
“She was taken by Jonny to his country.”
Wendy finally opened her mouth, but Wendy’s mother could not accept it.
“What, Jonny took her away? What do you mean? Make it clear.”
Wendy’s mother was shocked, she did not expect that Jonny would have Anna again.
