Stella could not help laughing at what the two children said.
"Maria was arrogant. As an adult, she did not respect the two children. Winwin had stopped that, or Maria would be embarrassed."
Stella felt more comfortable thinking about it. But then she thought of Vanessa.
Vanessa had not been happy. When Maria was in disregard of Winnie, Stella found Vanessa’s face had changed, but she had been enduring it.
She must feel distressed that Winnie was treated like that.
The car was silent for a while, then Joshua sighed.
"Winwin is wise, solved the most difficult problem with the simplest way."
Joshua admired Winnie's attitude, if for Wendy, they could not even finish the meal today.
"Yes, it was hard for Winwin. Not a single member of the family stood up for her. Not only did she not get angry, but she handled it well. That's the smartest part about her."
Stella knew that the most wronged person was Winnie and the most sensible person was also Winnie. But under that situation, that was the only thing they could do, but she did not know how long Winnie would have to face it.
Brian drove Winnie and two children back. Vanessa and Rufus were in the other car. All the way Vanessa did not say a word, but had been looking out the window in a daze.
Rufus tried to talk to Vanessa, but she still didn't speak.
Two cars arrived home together, and they got off together. Vanessa still wore a gloomy face and said a word to Winnie before she went away.
"Sister, I go upstairs to rest."
Vanessa didn't give Winnie the chance to react and disappeared in the sight of Winnie.
Winnie understood Vanessa's heart and knew Vanessa was distressed for her.
"Winwin, go to see Vanessa, she had been silent all the way."
Rufus had been worried all the way. He went to Winnie and asked her to see Vanessa.
"Rufus, Vanessa is not irritable. She’s probably in a bad mood, if you don't mind. I'll go and see her."
Winnie explained for Vanessa. It was not their home after all. Although Rufus was good to them, although Vanessa was still young and felt difficult to control her mood, she could show a black face to the owner of the house.
"What are you talking about, Winwin? How would I mind? I know she's in a bad mood, you just need to enlighten her."
Hearing Winnie's words, Rufus was guilty and did not know what to say.
Since Winnie said so, Winnie and Vanessa did not take here as home did not regard him as family. Such a mindset was proof that they lived here with caution.
His own daughter lived in his house with care and restraint, which made him sad.
"Thank you for understanding. I'll go up and have a look."
Winnie politely said thank you before she went upstairs. She had to say it politely, because it was the Bennet’s house.
"Vanessa did not speak all the way?"
Brian went to Rufus and asked.
"Yes, she had been looking out the window and not saying a word. She might feel sad for Winwin."
Rufus knew why Vanessa was not happy and knew that Vanessa was depressed at the table.
Quality told her to eat polite in other people's homes, but her heart told her that she could not see her sister to be discriminated against. These two states of mind must alternately afflict Vanessa, it was not sisterly love if she was still happy under such state.
Winnie came to Vanessa's room, only to see Vanessa crying in bed.
Seeing the thin trembling figure on the bed, Winnie also felt distressed.
She went to the bedside and sat down, patting Vanessa.
"Vanessa, I am ok. Don't worry, it is not a big deal."
Winnie knew that Vanessa could not accept indifference and disregard of the Bennet family to her. Winnie had anticipated this situation and had been ready for it, but she ignored Vanessa's ability to accept it.
"Sister..."
Vanessa sat up and hugged Winnie directly, crying sadly.
After her parents did, her sister and aunt took care of her for so many years. She did not know what it was like to be wronged and what her sister had endured outside.
But the attitude of the Bennet family made her think of a lot, of her sister's unknown heartbreak. In B City, the Bennet family was their family. If a family despised her sister, what would the outsiders treat her sister?
In the meantime.
Outside Vanessa’s room stood Brian and Rufus. From the beginning to now, Vanessa’s word had fallen into their ears.
They were wrong, they made the two sisters sad, they did not protect them. Brian and Rufus had acknowledged all of Vanessa's accusations. Just hearing that Vanessa want to drop school and leave, Brian was afraid.
He did not do a good job, failed to protect Winnie, it was his fault. He would try to correct his mistake, but absolutely he could not accept that Winnie left.
Winnie had been his all. If she left, he would be a walking dead with no soul.
Brian could not calm down when he heard that. He stretched out his hand to open the door and was to explain to Vanessa, but Rufus stopped him.
Rufus did not speak for fear that the two sisters in the room would hear him. He only told Brian with his eyes that he could not go in now, or Vanessa would be more emotional.
For Vanessa's accusations, he was speechless. Winnie endured all grievances, Vanessa sure felt distressed for her. They lived together and they were close families.
At the thought of Vanessa’s grievance, Rufus felt sorry too.
For Vanessa, the old house was her home. But in her own home, she was ignored unexpectedly and treated badly.
In the eyes of Vanessa, it was a ruthless cold-blooded family. They all had no human interest.
Inside and outside the door were silent. Vanessa's mood got better. Winnie wiped her tears before she spoke.
"Vanessa, I feel bad that Maria treated me like that, but it's natural that she looked down on people of humble status like us.”
"If I can say no, I will not be there again. Don’t worry.”
Winnie comforted Vanessa, no matter what, she could not have a negative impression on anyone.
"It's a complicated family, there's so much we don't know. But I want you to understand everyone because they have a position to stand for, because they all want the big picture."
"Vanessa, it is right that they did not speak for me. if they did, contradiction would grow bigger and we could come back smoothly. They are angry to see me being mocked and feel bad for me, but they can't make everyone unhappy just because they feel bad."
Winnie wanted to untie Vanessa's knot in heart bit by bit, bit by bit to make her understand all the people.
"Sister, you have a good heart. They don't want to see the conflict escalate, so they're gonna sacrifice you, let you suffer alone? If they did not speak for you this time, Maria will be worse to you. Do you have to bear every trouble caused by Maria in the future?"
