Starview Villa was silent.
In the rustic-styled room, Suzanne, in a light green casual outfit, sat on a cream-colored carpet on the floor with her legs crossed. When the breeze blew, the pink roses on the table fluttered along with it. She was taking her time reading the book in her hands.
All of a sudden, the phone on the table rang, breaking the silent atmosphere.
Suzanne looked up from her book and at the phone. It was a video call request from Austin. She lowered her book and answered his call.
Austin's face appeared on her screen. He asked in a husky voice, "What are you up to?"
At this moment, he was sitting on a couch, fixing his deep gaze on Suzanne through his phone.
Suzanne picked up the book next to her and showed it to Austin. In a gentle voice, she answered, "I'm reading."
Her initial plan was to read for a little while before going to bed. Now that Austin had called, she might have to push her bedtime back a little.
Austin wasn't surprised as he knew about Suzanne's habit of reading.
She placed her book on the table. Then, she asked, "How's your work trip going? Has it been tiring?"
This time, Austin's work trip was indeed rather long. He only came back briefly a few days ago before leaving the next day.
Austin smiled when he heard the tone of concern from her voice. Without him even realizing it, he softened his tone. "Not really. I'll be back soon."
For some reason, Suzanne kept feeling like there was this tenderness in his voice that made her ears flush a little red when she heard him.
Benjamin Hall's birthday was coming soon. Austin was probably coming back because of his grandfather.
Nevertheless, after Benjamin's birthday celebration, it would be time for Suzanne to participate in the competition.
Suzanne placed her phone on a cell phone stand on the table. She interlocked her fingers and rested her chin on the back of her hand as she looked at Austin. She chuckled helplessly and said, "I'll probably have to leave soon after you come back. We might not be able to see each other for long."
If it had been someone else who said that, she might have felt like she was being watched.
Nevertheless, she was well aware that Austin did not want her to be in danger. He didn't want her to end up in Henry's schemes. After all, there probably were people in Yates Corporation who were on his side.
"Let me know if you need me."
Austin's alluring voice pulled her back to reality. She smiled and nodded. "Okay, I will. I've been able to handle everything so far. I've submitted my work, so I'm just waiting for Henry and the rest to decide on the candidates who will participate in the competition."
He raised his brow. "Your work is eye-catching enough. This competition will affect the future of Yates Corporation. He won't have the guts to disallow your participation."
Suzanne scoffed. "In that case, you should also know about the other matter, right?"
Austin remained silent and waited for her to continue. Thus, Suzanne shared with him everything about Henry's debt with Golden Plaza Casino.
A cold gleam flashed across Austin's eyes. "It's good to have them fight against one another. But it's not crafty enough. Suzanne, real punishment involves making them suffer."
