Lily asked Naomi, "Could you please check if my primary physician is here?"
Naomi went to the nurses' station to inquire. A short moment after, she came back and reported, "He's here."
"Please get me a cardigan. I want to talk to the doctor about my injury."
Lily got out of her bed. She had been refraining from asking Xavier the entire night.
Naomi took a cardigan and put it on for Lily. Then, she accompanied her to Marvin's office.
Marvin looked a little awkward when Lily showed up. "Ms. Joyner, you shouldn't be moving about right now."
"I injured my hand, not my legs."
Lily sat down across from Marvin. She asked, "May I know if my examination results are out? What were your findings?"
Even though she inquired in a roundabout manner, she was well aware that the imaging results could actually be obtained immediately.
Marvin hesitated for a few seconds before answering, "Indeed, your examination results are out, but I have updated your husband about your condition. You may ask him if you wish to find out more."
"You can tell me directly."
Lily could understand if a nurse was unaware of her condition and directed her to check with Xavier. But why was Marvin also asking her to talk to Xavier about it?
Marvin was about to respond when a couple of knocks sounded at the door. A few doctors in white lab coats walked in.
"Your injury is a little complex. I have shared a treatment plan with your husband. It'll take quite a while to explain it to you, and I have other matters to handle."
While Marvin spoke, he got to his feet and picked up two sets of medical records from his table.
The few doctors who entered the room simply stood in wait for Marvin. Upon seeing that, Lily had no choice but to stand to her feet too.
Even so, she made another attempt to insist, "Could you just tell me directly if I will still be able to hold a pen for drawing or use a mouse frequently in the future?"
"We can't know for sure."
Marvin maintained his stance, so Lily had no choice but to leave.
"Don't you think you should be more concerned over Bruce's case?"
Lily thought of arguing that updates on Bruce's case were no longer trending. Even if she wanted to follow updates on the case, she wouldn't be able to do so.
"I'm only concerned about my hand and whether I'll be able to continue working as a designer."
"Is that important?"
Xavier interlocked his fingers as he rested his elbows on his knees. Studying Lily, he continued, "The conclusion of Bruce's case will show whether or not Sarah is innocent. Don't you wish to find out if she was the one who wanted to harm you?"
Lily was completely uninterested in discussing this topic with him. She had a feeling that he wasn't keen to talk to her about it.
She hadn't expected him to look and sound as if he had finally gotten an opportunity to talk to her about this after holding himself back for such a long time.
"Rather than wanting to find out if she wanted to hurt me, I would rather know if I will still be able to make a living as a designer."
A frosty look came across Xavier's sharp face. "Are you worried about not being able to make a living when you are my wife?"
