Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 414

"Mr. Fulton," the police officer at the front of the group greeted Xavier with a nod.

The officer entered the ward and made his way over to Lily. Her entire body had gone stiff from lying in bed all afternoon. She wanted to find out when the results of her examination would be released, but her unwillingness to speak to Xavier won out, so she decided not to ask at all.

When Lily noticed the police officer's gaze on her, she used her left hand to push herself up into a sitting position.

"Ms. Joyner, we're here to ask you some questions," the officer explained politely.

Xavier placed down the documents he had been reading and walked over to the bed. "What questions?"

The officer's tone became even more polite at that. "It's about Bruce Thompson identifying Sarah Lynde as an accomplice. There's been some development in the case. We found recordings that proved Ms. Lynde met with Mr. Thompson in private.

"Mr. Thompson's dashboard recorder also recorded their conversation. However, the evidence we have gathered isn't enough, which is why we would like to ask Ms. Joyner some questions."

Xavier's expression darkened after hearing that the evidence was conclusive.

Lily couldn't help but sneak a glance at him. She nodded at the officer, "Go ahead."

"Firstly, do you know Terence Devereux?" the officer asked while pulling out a notepad and a pen.

Lily nodded, her brows knitting together slightly. "I do."

"What relationship do you have with Mr. Devereux?"

"We're just friends. I'm close to his younger sister."

After noting that down, the officer continued asking, "Do you and Mr. Devereux have any conflicts with Ms. Lynde?"

Did Sarah stealing her husband count as a conflict? Lily didn't understand. Even if she had conflicts with Sarah, what did Terence have to do with anything?

No matter how Lily thought about it, there was only the time when she'd told Xavier she had photos proving he had an affair with Sarah. He had turned around and accused Lily of cheating on him with Terence.

But it had been clear that Sarah was the one pulling the strings behind the scenes. Was this her plan? Did she want to air out old issues to prove her own innocence?

"I don't know," Lily answered honestly. "There's no reason for Terence to have any conflict with her."

The police officers had run into a dead-end. Other than the shocking discovery that Lily was Xavier's wife, they hadn't found any substantial clues for the case. However, the truth about Xavier and Lily's relationship had inadvertently provided a motivation for Sarah's actions.

The police officers left the ward after wrapping up their questioning. Silence filled the room once more.

"You should bail Sarah out as soon as possible," Lily told Xavier. "If the police continue their investigation, it'll get even harder to prove her innocence. You'll be heartbroken then."

If something should happen to Sarah, Xavier would be heartbroken. As for Lily? She would be forced into a tough spot.
