Lily's hand was too weak to lift on her own—she needed someone to support it whenever she raised it.
At first, she didn't understand what Marvin meant by needing someone to help her. But after a brief explanation, she glanced back at the two men being blocked outside by the nurse.
"Sorry, only one person can enter," the nurse said.
"I'll go," Xavier and Terence said in unison.
Both Marvin and the nurse glanced at Lily.
"Can I have the nurse help me instead?" Lily said, flashing an apologetic smile at Marvin.
Not wanting to waste time, he gestured at the nurse. "Close the door. You help her instead."
The nurse shut the door and stepped inside, her gaze falling on Lily. The latter was slender, and her striking features only added to her allure. Even her loose hospital gown couldn't hide her curves.
The nurse lifted Lily's sleeve, revealing a small section of her arm where there was no cast.
"Ms. Joyner, please try to keep your palm facing up. It might hurt a little."
Lily was actually a little distracted. It wasn't because of the two men outside, but because she felt as if she had just processed the impact of last night's events.
Was her hand truly crippled? Did she still have hope?
She stared at the doctor standing by the machine. Marvin was supposed to be the best. So, it meant today's examination would determine her fate.
What would she do if her hand could never fully recover?
Countless thoughts flooded her mind, leaving her momentarily dazed.
"Ms. Joyner?" The nurse called her again.
Lily looked somewhat shaken as she lifted her gaze, her bloodshot eyes finally focusing on the nurse.
Some pointed out that from the very beginning, Xavier had never actually confirmed the media's speculation about Sarah's identity. In the end, it had been nothing but the media's speculation. Xavier had simply gone along with it.
Who was his wife if Sarah wasn't? And why would Sarah instigate Bruce to hurt a seemingly unrelated socialite who had fallen from grace?
To the media, Lily was nothing but a socialite who had fallen from grace.
"I'm waiting for the police investigation results," Xavier gritted out, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly.
Their situation had become so complicated to the point that he struggled to begin explaining.
Clearly, his answer wasn't what Tamara wanted.
"What exactly is going on between you and Lily? Are you two divorced or not?"
"No," Xavier promptly answered.
