“Why don’t you marry Sarah if you’re so amazing?” Lily had endured Xavier’s threat countless times and couldn’t help snapping: 

“What’s so impressive about bullying me? It’s pathetic for a man who stands at the top of the social pyramid like you to be trapped in a hollow marriage. You can’t have love even if you have all the money in the world! 

She had seen how pathetic a loveless marriage could be in Hazel’s life. Lily found herself more pitiful than Hazel, while Xavier was no better than Bobby! 

After all, Bobby was a selfish person, and he loved no one but himself. However, Xavier loved Sarah but couldn’t marry her. 

“Think about it. Is there anything I want that I can’t have?” Xavier extended his hand into the car and tapped twice on her full and smooth forehead. “No one could stop me even if I wanted to marry a beggar!” 

Lily winced in pain. She instantly pulled away and covered her forehead as she glanced at him. For all his bravado, Xavier couldn’t entirely ignore Edith. He would undoubtedly compromise if Edith fell sick from anger. 

His filial piety was probably his only redeeming quality!

Lily’s body stiffened a little before she continued to walk toward the complex. She wasn’t about to take her anger out on the cake even though she was as infuriating as he was. It was an expensive black swan cake that she wouldn’t have bought for herself 

She returned home and calmed down before she got back to working on her design draft. 

A message from Hayden came through right after midnight. He wished her a happy birthday and invited her to dinner tonight. 

Lily celebrated on her own. She lit a candle and made a wish before blowing it off and having some of the cake. 

She replied to Hayden in the morning and agreed to meet for dinner. 

Xavier’s appearance last night had slightly marred what should have been a happy birthday surprise. Nevertheless, she shook it off and put on makeup before heading to work. She sent Maryanne the design plan once again for Marika to review. 

Meanwhile, Marika was scolding Maryanne. “You don’t want to get married or into a relationship. What exactly are you trying to do?” 

Maryanne slid the design plan in front of her. “Hurry up and look. Lily had come up with your son’s wedding house design. You should probably nag at Terence instead. 

“His kid will carry the Devereux family name, but who knows whose name my kid will take? Why are you so concerned about someone else’s family?” 

Marika glanced at the phone briefly and pushed it aside. “Don’t try to change the subject. Look at Lily. She’s been married for two years now. What about you?
