Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 309

Terence's mind was in turmoil like never before that afternoon. He couldn't help but hold his breath under Lily's clear, penetrating gaze.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked, noticing his serious expression. "Did something happen?"

Terence took the items from her hands and headed to the kitchen. He avoided her gaze and laughed lightly. "It's nothing. It was just an excuse to catch up. I'm glad Hayden is doing better."

He wasn't a saint. He was just an ordinary man with his selfish thoughts.

Lily was already this deep into her relationship with Xavier, and doing her a favor wouldn't change anything. If anything, it would only complicate her feelings.

"Hayden's recovering. I'll get back to the store in a few days and life will return to normal. If you want to meet up, just give me a call. No need for excuses."

Lily was lost in the joy of Hayden's recovery and turned to clear the table, oblivious to anything unusual about Terence.

Only three days were left until Nova Group's annual meeting. Tamara arrived at the office to find Xavier buried under a thick stack of documents.

Her tone was displeased as she spoke. "Have you finalized the divorce yet?"

Xavier continued signing documents without lifting his eyes, his voice calm. "I'll take care of it. Don't worry."

His sharp profile and clear-cut features were even more pronounced after several days of overtime. He'd clearly lost weight.

Tamara noticed and felt a pang of heartache. "I never wanted you to marry her. She's like a pretty vase—beautiful but useless. Later, I thought, at least she was obedient and took care of you.

"But now, look at this. She went quiet for so long and now causing trouble at the worst time. If it's not working, just divorce her. Don't let her ruin your life and your work."

"I won't." Xavier's lips barely moved as he spoke.

He closed the file and looked at Tamara. "Mom, focus on your own work. Things have settled here. Take a break and spend time with Dad. Don't worry about me."

Ever since Xavier had come of age, Tamara had taken a step back from parenting. His marriage had been his decision, and though she wasn't happy with it, she respected it.

Now, her advice was occasional, only stepping in when necessary.

Timothy knew Xavier wouldn't be pleased to hear that Lily had dinner with someone else. Why investigate in the first place?

Timothy then hesitantly suggested, "Mr. Fulton, maybe you could speak to Mrs. Fulton directly. Even if you want to look into photos or videos, it might be better to clear up the misunderstanding first, then investigate further."

"Talk?"

Xavier's gaze turned cold at the suggestion. To him, speaking with Lily meant degrading himself.

Whenever he thought about her distant expression and her indifference when they met, anger flared inside him.

Wasn't her relationship with Terence also ambiguous? Why hadn't she initiated a conversation?

"Mr. Fulton, if there's nothing else, I'll finish up for the day," Timothy said, familiar with Xavier's temperament. He knew this silence wasn't agreement but disapproval of his suggestion.

Xavier waved him off before burying himself back in his work. It wasn't until 3:00 a.m. that he finally finished his tasks and went to the lounge to freshen up.
