Lily’s eyes trembled slightly, her brows furrowing, “What exactly did you say to Xavier?” 

Since the last time when Xavier had come to see her while she was getting an IV, saying those strange things, to today, everything seemed off. 

“You don’t need to worry about what I said. I won’t harm you.” Hazel pushed her into the elevator. “But if you don’t listen to me and Xavier catches you in some altair, you’ll in the Joyner family!” 

She seemed convinced that Lily had betrayed Xavier 

lly had no defense and simply asked, “When are you going home?” 

“L” Hazel’s gaze briefly flicked to her stomach. “I’m afraid your father will hit me, so I’ll go back in a few days.” 

When they reached their floor, Lily walked into their apartment. On the dining table was an empty takeout box that had been picked clean by Hazel. “Staring tomorrow, I’ll be going to work. I won’t be home for meals, so you must figure it out alone. If you order takeout, at least clean up the trash.” Lily couldn’t remember how often she had been left cleaning up after Hazel. 

Unfazed, Hazel crossed her arms and watched her clean. “You really have a job?” 

“Of course,” Lily replied, finishing up and walking toward her bedroom to get her pajamas and prepare for a shower. 

“How much do you make a month?” Hazel followed her, blocking her from closing the door. 

“Several thousand.” 

As soon as she finished speaking, Hazel’s expression soured 

“It’s not even enough to buy a bag, What are you working for? You should be thinking about how to make Xavier happy instead….” 

Lily pushed Hazel’s hand away and locked the bathroom door behind her. Her life was already chaotic enough. She didn’t need Hazel to add more complications. 

For the past few days, she had been focusing on her design sketches every morning, but Hazel would come by every few minutes, either talking about Xavier or asking about random things. 

This made it even harder for Lily to concentrate, especially since she was already out of sync. It wasn’t surprising that her design got rejected by Terence. She was anxious–only ten days left–but had no direction and couldn’t get into the right headspace. 

Hazel glared at the bathroom door before returning to her room to call Bobby. 

“I’ve been keeping a close eye on her, and she still hasn’t had her period… I know this doesn’t necessarily mean she’s pregnant, but I’m still trying to get her to go back to Fulton Menor. I just haven’t found the right opportunity yet…” 

On a cold winter moming, even getting out of the warm bed to work became a torment, especially since Lily had to change clothes and put on a heavy down jacket before heading out to wait for the bus
