“Lily has teelings for me?” Xavier’s hands were in his pockets, his expression skeptical. “You might not know, but recently, she’s been getting very 

close to Termice. 

Hazel knew Terence. The Devereux family was also quite prominent in Jadeford, especially since Lily was close to Maryanne. 

Seeing his darkening expression, Hazel quickly added, “You might have been neglecting her. Over the past two years, she’s come home repeatedly complaining that you don’t pay enough attention to her. 

“There were no surprises for your wedding anniversary, no birthday celebrations, and you never check in on her.” 

“So, she went to another man for comfort?” His voice turned cold. If that was the reason, Lily was truly making excuses for hersell. 

Hazel clicked her tongue, paused for a moment, then immediately countered. 

“Of course not! She’s just trying to get your attention. She wants to make you jealous. I can see that you’re angry, which means you care about her. That’s why it has come to this divorce, but it’s all a misunderstanding” 

Xavier’s brow furrowed deeply. So, were Lily’s actions with Terence just a show to provoke him? She was playing games, using the art of seduction, but misjudged the balance. It would only lead to disaster. 

“Xavier, she’s really sick. She hasn’t eaten since yesterday, and her fever’s been bad. I’m not feeling well, so I can’t care for her. Please check on her.” 

She pressed her hand to her forehead, loolding frail. 

“Oh no! Nurse, please help me!” She staggered, almost collapsing, and stumbled several feet before grabbing the nurse’s station. 

The nurse quickly got up, moved around the desk, and supported her. “Ma’am, what’s wrong?” 

“I have a headache, and I can’t stand straight. Could you help me get a chair?” 

Hazel was quite skilled at pretending to be ill. As the nurse helped her toward a chair, she pointed toward the clinic area. 

“Poor Lily, she’s all alone getting an IV and still has a fever…” 

The clinic was filled with people getting IVs, with several rows of seats occupied by them. Xavier raised his eyes and immediately spotted Lily sitting by the edge, drowsy and leaning against the wall. 

Even though they had just met yesterday, she seemed a bit unfamiliar today. She was wrapped in her black down jacket, looking small enough to be lifted with one hand. 

Her long hair was tied into a low bun at the back of her head. It was loose and lazy, with a hint of unintentional charm in her innocent features. When he came to his senses, he found himself standing right in front of her. A dim light fell over her, and her eyelids fluttered before opening She didn’t dare fall into a deep sleep, fearing the IV would run out. Her eyes landed on his shiny black shoes, then slowly moved upward. 

He wore black pants that clung to his straight legs, and his knee–length black coat was slightly open. The the he was wearing was the one Lily had chosen for him 

She gazed at the tie momentarily before her eyes stopped moving upward. It had to be a dream, or she was imagining things. Why would Xavier be here? After several seconds of hesitation, she suddenly looked up, and his familiar face and chiseled features appeared before her. 

It was really Xavier. Why was he here? 

She instinctively straightened her back and opened her mouth but found she couldn’t speak, her throat too hoarse. 

Xavier stood before her, towering, hands in pockets. His gaze was indifferent yet tinged with subtle curiosity. She couldn’t find her voice for some reason, but tears began to fall. 

Perhaps it was the fever, but the hot tears stung as they ran down her cheeks, almost as if they could burn her skin. 

Her cheeks were flushed, unusually red.
