Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 988

Dixie was in a daze after being slapped, and the suit dropped to the floor. She stared in disbelief at Luther, her eyes slowly tinged red.

Meanwhile, he had snapped back to reality the moment he struck her. The hostility in his eyes transformed into remorse. "No, Dixie… I-I… I didn't mean to…"

Dixie covered her face and burst into tears, failing to comprehend that he had actually slapped her… Not even Carly or Hugo had ever slapped her, so how could he?

She refused to listen to what he had to say, decisively grabbing her purse to leave. Having regained his bearings, Luther swiftly embraced her and dragged her into the bedroom while ignoring her struggles.

As he hugged her, he expressed his regret. "Dixie, don't go… I was wrong. I truly didn't mean to. I just couldn't control myself. I… I'm truly suffering…"

Seeing how she insisted on leaving, he gave himself a harsh slap and released her, smiling wryly. "Just go. It's better if you do, anyway. It's not like I can give you the life of your dreams anymore… Go, Dixie. I don't want to hold you back anymore."

Luther's action caused Dixie to stay and question what had happened. At her anxious look, he felt his heart settle. Eventually, after her relentless questions, he told the truth.

He couldn't hide the truth about the broken spell, and it was more ideal to come clean. Since he couldn't be the son of a wealthy family anymore, he had no reason to hold back Dixie.

"The spell failed. In the future, I'll only remain as Luther and will never be deserving of you. I can't even give you the grand wedding ceremony I'd promised you… I don't deserve you anymore!" Luther sobbed.

The humiliation Dixie felt from the slap earlier vanished at the sight of his sorry state. She hugged him and cried, "You silly fool! Why didn't you just tell me the truth? You don't think I'll share your struggles?

She began feeling grateful for the outcome. "Thank goodness, you didn't turn into him, Luth. Otherwise, I'd be devastated."

Luther offered her more consolation, and when she finally decided to stay for good, he coaxed her, "We can't afford these luxury clothes anymore. Why don't you return them tomorrow? We're out of money now and probably can't afford to hire a caregiver either.

"I'm sorry you'll need to take care of her, Dixie."

Dixie's face immediately showed reluctance upon hearing about the lack of a caregiver. Meeting his anticipated gaze, however, she swallowed her words. After some hesitation, she forced herself to nod and concur.
