Shannon naturally didn't know when the "appropriate time" was to announce the breakup. Thus, she discussed it with him beforehand. "So, when do you think is appropriate?"
As if worried he would misunderstand her reluctance to stay in a contract with him, she added, "I'll follow whatever you say. I'm okay with whenever."
Benjamin's originally cold gaze softened at her words. "Then… We'll talk about it again in a year."
Shannon ignored the first part of his sentence and only heard "in a year". As such, she nodded decisively. "Alright, in a year."
…
At a bungalow in the urban village, Cecily struggled to escape the news about Shannon when she surfed the web.
She refreshed the page and found discussions praising Shannon's heroic act in the spiritual realm. Another refresh, and there were posts lamenting the end of Sixth Sense and how much they'd miss Shannon. A third refresh revealed gossip about Shannon and Benjamin's beautiful love story.
Cecily switched off her phone and tossed the phone away in a fit of rage, saving herself from frustration. Meanwhile, Ziva coldly asked, "Have you found the people as I told you? The list of all the players from last night?"
Cecily mentioned that the system had most likely secured a new host, who could very well be one of the players from last night. Ziva remained dead set on finding the system, so she told Cecily to locate the list of players and seek each of them with her.
No matter what, she needed to acquire the system.
Cecily looked at Ziva. "I've already added half of the players from the group chat, but some exited the group last night. I have yet to find them…"
Ziva had no difficulty belittling her. "You piece of trash."
Hence, Ziva was eager to have Cecily locate the system. Only after becoming its new host could she recover her voice. That, too, was her only option.
As they spoke, a series of steady knocks echoed through the door. The rhythm was neither fast nor slow, lingering in the silence, making the late hour feel even more eerie.
With her hoarse voice, Ziva shouted toward the door, "Who is it?"
The person outside the door stayed silent and continued knocking on the door, its rhythm and speed maintained from earlier.
Ziva turned to Cecily, who shook her head in horror.
