Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 916

Shannon stared at Benjamin and felt her heart pound.

As he gazed steadily at her, she lowered her eyes and thought briefly. Then, she extended her left hand and carefully unwrapped the freshly bandaged gauze.

"It's because I have the same mark," she said.

Once the gauze was fully moved, a visible wound on her palm was revealed. Next to it in an uninjured area was a red mark identical to Benjamin's.

Benjamin paused and was surprised. Though he'd asked on purpose, he'd never expected her to admit to it so straightforwardly.

"Do identical marks… have any special significance to them?" he asked in a voice softer than usual. There was a hint of unrecognized emotion in it.

Shannon met his eyes and gave a solemn nod. She explained, "Thalia's protective mark has a special function. It alerts each person bearing it if the other is in danger."

"Since you possess the unique golden light, Thalia probably left the mark with you so I'd sense if you were in danger and protect you.

"But I didn't expect it to be the other way around. You sensed my danger and helped me."

Benjamin was briefly speechless. It seemed he'd overestimated her honesty as he'd hoped a trickster like her would willingly confess. Hmph…

"Is that so?" he murmured with a cool expression. The golden light around him made it hard for Shannon to read his face, but she nodded again.

She had a gentle look by nature and coupled with her earnest expression, it was hard for anyone to think she was lying.

There was no way Shannon could bluntly tell him that the mark represented a marriage contract. That'd sound like she and Thalia had tricked him into a forced marriage.

Benjamin's voice was cold. "You didn't mention it when I asked you about this."

Her head tilted to one side, and her eyes closed as she fell into a deep sleep.

Noticing her fatigue, Benjamin's eyes softened with a hint of resignation. He reached over and tugged her in.

His eyes fell on her exposed palm, and he paused slightly. The wound with unwrapped gauze lay open. Though it no longer bled, it still looked unsightly.

He glanced at Shannon who was now fast asleep and gently lifted her injured hand. He brushed his fingers lightly over the wound, and the injury vanished to leave a smooth and unscarred palm.

With a calm expression, he wrapped her hand in fresh gauze to keep up the appearance.

Once he finished, he looked up and noticed Benji Gold sitting beside her pillow and tilting its head at him. It'd seen everything he'd done.

Benjamin calmly shot it a glance and lifted a finger to his lips in a silent gesture. There was a commanding hint in his motion.
