What kind of ghost got so bored that they simulated a park-sized spiritual realm just to trap them?
"Probably because… It likes to play Cat and Mouse."
Scott couldn't believe his ears. "But we're out of the game!"
The other four teens nodded and agreed. Wasn't that right? Their wristbands were forcefully yanked off earlier.
"I suppose it's because you guys registered and checked in earlier," Calvin voiced his assumption.
The teens simultaneously pulled a long face. They were damned, weren't they? Even after losing their eligibility for the game, they were forcefully dragged back into it.
Shannon agreed with his assumption. She turned to him and asked, "You previously said that the number of missing persons has totaled up to 17. Is it possible that you've missed out more?"
Calvin answered, "Within the city, there have been a confirmed total of 17 players who had gone missing. With that said, I haven't compiled the data for other cases of unexplained disappearances or those from other cities."
His words only deepened the seriousness of Shannon's expression. "If that's the case, it's going to get very tricky from now on."
"What do you mean?" he asked.
She showed everyone the map displaying the geolocation of the mouse and cat players.
"There are a total of 80 players tonight. If we assume that the 17 missing people were also pulled into this spiritual realm—even after adding the five people from Scott's group—the total would only be 102. Now, how many players do you think are currently on this map?"
The group simultaneously gazed at the screen on her phone and saw the dense array of avatars. Although they couldn't count the exact amount yet, they were sure there were more than the initial 80 players. In fact, it might even exceed 102 players…
Without delving deeper, she turned to Scott and others, explaining, "The game started at 9:30 pm, but the time in the spiritual realm doesn't align with the outside world. If we assume that the existence of the spiritual realm is tied to the Cat and Mouse game, then the only way I can think of to escape this realm is to finish the game."
If the cat players caught all the mouse players, the cats won. If the cats failed to catch all the mice within the time limit, the mice would gain victory.
"What we need to be wary of is that… the players we encounter next might not all be human."
That single sentence sent shivers down the teens' spines. They shivered lightly, but what made them tremble even more were the words that followed from Clara.
Pointing at the map in her hands, she uttered with a quivering voice, "Shan… Shannon? I think the cats are closing it on us."
It seemed they had been besieged!
