On the other side, the instigators and the parties involved in the chaos tonight, Camryn and Marshall, knelt before their smashed phones, drowning in despair.
Just earlier, they'd awaited Shannon's next step, only to see her ending the livestream. After relaxing for barely ten minutes, Camryn's phone appeared to have malfunctioned, showing stripes on the screen.
Their faces inched toward the phone, intending to check out what went wrong with the device. Out of the blue, the screen flashed and took a photo of them.
Marshall turned to Camryn. "Why the heck did you just take a selfie?"
They looked horrendous from this angle.
Camryn was confused while holding the phone. "I didn't press anything!"
Marshall wanted to argue that the phone wouldn't capture a picture if he hadn't pressed anything, yet before he could say so, the same selfie appeared on the monitor screen. At the same time, his very own phone and tablet lit up with the exact photo.
The two looked at the flashing screens and plunged into terror. Not only because the other screens displayed the same photo, but also because… they had unplugged the Internet cable! If this was malware, how did the devices receive the photo without being connected to the Internet?
"What the hell?" Camryn exclaimed and tossed his phone to the desk.
Marshall, on the other hand, reacted much more calmly than him. He wiggled the mouse, confirmed it wasn't moving, and switched off the computer. Only then did the two heave a breath of relief…
Their relief was short-lived, though, as they were immediately terrified by the sight before them. The computer they had switched off turned on automatically, and with a click, the monitor displayed their selfie again.
"W-What's going on? Do something about it! Aren't you a computer expert?" Camryn shoved Marshall toward the computer, but the latter was obviously frightened.
How could a normal computer virus turn on a shut-down computer by itself? This was definitely not something that could be done with regular technology. It wasn't like his family was being controlled by some secret organization either!
"C-Call the police! She's hacking our computer! This is illegal! Call the police!" Camryn shouted shakily. His first innocent thought was to seek help from the officers.
Marshall pointed at the phone he had tossed on the desk. "Y-You do it."
Camryn was speechless. After struggling and hesitating for a few seconds, he gritted his teeth, dashed forward to grab the phone, and discarded the photo, ready to call the police. However, messages of concern from his friends popped up on his screen.
Each of the messages was attached to the selfie earlier, asking, "Is this you, Cam?"
Then, one of the messages wrote, "I think your photo has been spreading everywhere like a virus."
For a moment, Camryn forgot about the authorities and swiftly opened Twitter.
