Mandy's temper had always been fiery. She was ready to put him in his place when she noticed the woman covering her mouth with her hand in the corner. More accurately, she glimpsed the gemstone ring on her finger.
Mandy was in shock—there was no way she couldn't understand the situation now.
"Hayes! How did the ring Grandma gave me get onto her finger? You stole it and gifted it to your mistress?"
She was in utter fury, even more angered than when she found out he had cheated on her. "My ring! My dowry! That son of a bitch has stained my precious ring!" she screamed in her head.
By then, the scions all shot Hayes a disdainful look. It wasn't uncommon to see a man cheating; at most, they'd condemn the behavior and go about their day next.
However, it became highly derisive when the man stole from his girlfriend and gifted it to his mistress. Just how poor was this dude?
Hayes hadn't expected to be caught in the act, including his theft of the ring. As he received scornful gazes from everyone at the door, he felt his ego crumbling like a fallen building and lashed out.
"Enough! Mandy, you're the reason why I instinctively ran away. It's because I know you will never listen! She's not my mistress; she's just a friend! I only helped her check into the hotel and had dinner with her. What's so wrong about having a friend?"
The more Hayes spoke, the more he convinced himself he was right, as evident from his confident look. "And that ring? She's just into vintage rings. I promised her I'd give her one as a birthday present. You have a gazillion rings and never cared when you lost a few anyway.
Someone like her had come from a family that emphasized women's education. She had always been bold and confident. Why would she be fooled by his words? Not only that, she saw through his intentions and was revolted by him.
She pointed at Hayes, scolding, "Stop being so painfully disgusting, my gosh! If you're so generous, why didn't you use your money to buy her a present instead? Even if I choose to discard my items, you'll never have the right to take them and give them to someone else without my permission!"
Seeing that he was ready to refute, she threatened, "If you want your family to survive in Seastone, shut your damn mouth and quietly take a beating from me. Once I vent my frustrations, you and I will never see each other again.
"Otherwise, I'll do everything in my power to make your family business go bankrupt! Try me!"
