A major event took place three days after Shannon returned to campus.
The dean of Seastone School of Mystic Arts, Albern Darlington, whom the newcomers had yet to see since the start of the term, finally made his appearance.
He was dressed in purple robes as he stood quietly in front of the Stone Turtle sculpture. His presence exuded a calmness shaped over years of experience.
As he spoke, an air of solemn silence spread through the crowd below. But that didn't include Mike.
Standing behind Shannon, his lips barely moved, but she could still hear him whisper. "100 dollars for Mr. Darlington's tea?"
Shannon kept her gaze forward and maintained a stoic face. Then, she casually held out five fingers behind her back. 50 dollars, and not a single penny more than that.
Mike murmured, "50 dollars is too little. Add a little more."
Her five fingers became three, signaling 30 dollars. She'd lower the price with more bargaining.
Mike grumbled softly about her stinginess despite her wealth before sharing Albern's gossip in a low voice. "Don't be fooled by how old he looks. He really is ancient. Rumor has it he's 150 years old."
...
"He's junior to the dean of Jamborough School of Mystic Arts, who took over as the dean in the early days.
"His crush stayed behind in Jamborough and ended up with the senior, and he was so ticked off that he applied to be the dean in Seastone instead.
"He's been away all this time because he went to Jamborough to fight the senior. He lost and had to recuperate for a month."
Finally, Albern looked at Shannon who'd been sitting upright the entire time, unlike others. It seemed as if she hadn't been listening to the gossip.
His gaze lingered on her before shifting to the golden paper figure peeking from her shoulder and curiously observing him.
Albern squinted. He instantly realized how she'd summoned the Strength of the Dragon Deity in her duel with Skylar.
Shannon felt Albern's gaze on her for some time. Though she sat calmly, she couldn't help feeling nervous.
Just when she thought he might not say anything, he spoke up. There seemed to be a deeper meaning behind his words. "...That's an interesting paper figure you've got there."
Shannon wasn't sure how she should react. Was she supposed to say thank you?
