"Stay behind me," Benjamin instructed.
Shannon felt slightly awkward but didn't argue. It was fine; she could protect him even from behind.
As she grabbed a talisman, she followed Benjamin into the alley.
The alley was dark, and they noticed a man up ahead dragging a woman into a corner with his hand firmly over her mouth.
Just as they were about to rush forward, Benji Gold and Shanny Gold suddenly appeared out of nowhere to block their path. Then, they patted themselves and signaled the two to leave it to them.
Without waiting for them to respond, they darted toward the man like arrows. Benjamin and Shannon heard the man's agonized screams almost immediately after. "What the hell is this? Ghosts! Stop that!"
As Benjamin and Shannon sprinted over, they saw the golden paper figures hopping all over the man and punching him one after the other. They whacked him violently though they were just made of paper.
The woman on the ground stared in shock and was too stunned to flee.
Shannon wasted no time pulling out an immobilization talisman and flung it toward the man. "Be still!"
As soon as the immobilization talisman stuck to him, the man who'd been flailing wildly was instantly paralyzed.
Benji Gold and Shanny Gold had been working together to dodge the man's attacks while hitting him. Once the man was immobilized, they exchanged a glance before diving back at him to slap his face from both sides.
They took turns hitting him from both sides, and they beat the man's face into a swollen mess in just a few moments. He now had a bruised pig-like face.
The woman on the ground was completely dumbfounded. When she looked at Shannon and Benjamin who'd suddenly appeared, her face still carried a mix of fear and dishevelment.
Her words froze Quilla in place. Shannon continued speaking into the phone without waiting for a response, "Hello, I'm in an alley near Building A of Starbury District.
"My boyfriend and I just witnessed an attempted robbery and murder. The perpetrator has been subdued. Please send someone over as soon as possible."
Quilla relaxed as she heard Shannon describe the situation as an attempted robbery and murder. She didn't argue further.
The man, Brett Holder, stared at Shannon with terrified eyes and tried to say something in his defense, but he was frozen in place.
Benjamin glanced at the time. It was past the 10:00 pm deadline Hector had set for him to send Shannon home.
But then again, it didn't matter.
