Benjamin had never been one to show his emotions. He descended into a brief silence at the sight of the sleeping pets and pressed a button on his landline beside his bed.
Soon enough, Julian knocked on the door and entered. He was moved and surprised when he saw Benjamin. "Mr. Coo—"
Benjamin raised his hand to interrupt him, then pointed at the two at the foot of his bed, his tone emotionless. "Bring them out."
Julian subconsciously looked at Shannon at the bedside and quickly affirmed, "Got it."
He went up and carefully carried Marshmallow from the bed. Then he set it into Kai's arms, bent down, and picked up the boy and the fox in one sweep—princess-carry style.
Kai was just asleep, not dead. With such a big motion and the scent of a human so close, he instantly jolted awake.
Realizing he was being carried out of the room as soon as he opened his eyes, Kai turned pale and started struggling frantically, still clutching Marshmallow tightly. "I-I-I'll go! Let me walk on my own!"
This was what humans called a princess carry! He was a male wyrm! How could he possibly be the princess?
"Put me down right now!"
Unperturbed, Julian treated his objections as a child's tantrums. Rather than comforting him, he followed Benjamin's order to escort him out.
He tightened his grip and soon soared out of the room, cradling the teen boy and the fox.
Seeing Kai and Marshmallow being carried out of the room, Shannon turned to Benjamin, met his gaze, and quickly stood up. "I'll just see myself out."
Not mentioning the existence of the Divine Power was deliberate, as even those from the mystic arts threaded lightly around it. How much more so for someone like Benjamin, an ordinary person…
Well, he might not be that ordinary, after all. In fact, he might very well be the son of the Divine Power.
After all, to be struck by the fire lightning and remain unharmed was almost akin to being a favored child. Given that, wouldn't it be unwise to speak ill of his "father" before him?
Although Shannon had recounted everything in detail, Benjamin could vaguely feel she wasn't entirely honest. He didn't probe further and only lowered his gaze as if contemplating something.
Noticing his silence, she pondered briefly before asking, "Your doctor is outside. Would you want me to call them in for a checkup?"
He shook his head. "That won't be necessary." He then gazed at her. "Aren't you severely drained of spiritual energy? You can stay by my side a little longer."
