Back in Hank's dorm, he walked into the bathroom with his change of clothes.
The dorm was quiet until the guy who'd invited Hank to basketball earlier in the day entered. He glanced around the room and listened to the sound of the water coming from the bathroom.
Then, he raised his voice to ask, "Hank, are you in there?"
"Yeah," Hank replied from the bathroom as the water splashed.
The guy took a moment to steady his nerves and listened carefully to confirm that Hank wouldn't come out anytime now. Then, he turned to lock the door and pulled a palm-sized doll from his bag.
After a brief moment of hesitation, he climbed onto Hank's bed and carefully stuffed the doll into the pillowcase.
As he was too focused on his sneaky task, he didn't notice the bathroom door silently open behind him. Hank was fully dressed as he stood right behind with a cold expression and asked, "What are you doing?"
…
Cecily waited late into the night before hearing about the commotion in the boys' dorm.
"I heard someone in the boys' dorm got caught stealing, and it was recorded clearly on the surveillance cameras. They called the police and took him away."
One of the girls in the dorm excitedly shared the latest tea and immediately grabbed the attention of the other two. "Who was it? And why would there be cameras in the dorm?"
"It's that first-year finance guy from the Jensens. You know him, don't you? He's a rich kid, and his watch alone costs over a million dollars. Having cameras installed isn't too much of a stretch."
"But isn't calling the police right away a little too extreme? They're dormmates, and the guy didn't get to steal anything in the end. Getting into university isn't easy for anyone."
"Ha! Just because he didn't succeed doesn't mean it's not theft. Once you have the intention, it's already stealing. They're gonna repeat it if you go easy the first time."
And why was he so sure? After thinking it over, she could only conclude that the doll's clothes had been exposed.
"System: I'd suggest you check the locations of the other items filled with malevolent energy. If they've all been moved, it shows that both the host and the system's existence have been exposed."
Shannon was undoubtedly the only person capable of uncovering such a thing.
Cecily started to resent the system. "You mentioned that with your system's energy masking the objects, a mystic master can't detect anything, no matter how skilled one was."
This wasn't the first time. At first, the system had assured her she wouldn't be affected by the malevolent energy, so she'd confidently gone to the abandoned classroom building in search of the blood-red skull.
In the end, she'd almost been trapped there and lost Scott's trust in the process.
