Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 708

As Jaxon carried the doll back, Marie still clung to a shred of hope.

Perhaps Jaxon was lying to her; perhaps this had nothing to do with Cecily after all. She simply couldn't believe that Cecily, whom she'd loved so dearly, could be responsible for such a thing.

But when she saw Cecily approach her in the apartment, an overwhelming sense of despair and confusion filled her heart.

"Cecily… Is it really you? I'm your grandma…

"Cecily, talk to me! Why are you doing this? Cecily!"

But Cecily acted as though she couldn't hear a word. She cast a brief, indifferent glance at the doll in Jaxon's hands.

Instead of taking it over, she lifted her hand and slapped Jaxon hard across her face. Her cold, disdainful expression was nothing like the gentle and obedient young lady she'd always been in front of Marie.

Marie was stunned. Jaxon, too, was dazed by the slap, and his first instinct was to throw a fit. But Cecily shot him a cold glare and snarled, "You almost ruined everything today!"

Jaxon found himself speechless.

Cecily ignored him and took the doll. Then, she walked straight to the doll room and carefully placed Marie's doll next to Caleb's.

She reverted to the gentle demeanor Marie knew. Though she was smiling, her words sent chills down Marie's spine. "Grandma, I'm not being ungrateful here. I'm placing you next to Caleb, so you two can keep each other company from now on."

With that, she closed the glass cabinet and walked out of the room.

Marie, who hadn't recovered from the shock and disappointment of realizing the truth, was suddenly struck by Cecily's words.

Having gone through a tirade of rage earlier in the day, Caleb wasn't as agitated as Marie was. As she raged, he chimed in, "Grandma, I've said all of that."

He'd cursed Cecily countless times, but it made no difference. She couldn't hear it, and even if she could, she wouldn't care. It was ultimately their fault for misjudging her.

Marie continued cursing until she managed to vent some of her wrath. But deep down, she couldn't bring herself to admit that she'd been so blind.

After her initial outburst of disbelief and fury, she tried to find justification for Cecily's actions. "Cal… Do you think it's possible that Cecily's also been possessed?"

Marie wasn't making excuses for Cecily; it was more about making excuses for herself. She didn't want to admit she'd been so blinded to dote on the wrong person all these years, even after witnessing everything firsthand.

She'd rather believe that Cecily was possessed and that her soul was now trapped, powerless in some doll.
