Cecily seemed rather distressed at the moment, prompting Caleb to be worried for her. "What's wrong?"
She forced a lighthearted smile. "Nothing. Just that the walls are super thin in this house, and I could hear Elora blasting music…"
He felt empathetic toward her.
Cecily brushed off the matter since she would return to university tomorrow anyway.
Then, she casually asked about Marie. "I wonder how Grandma is now. She has a leg ache and needs massages to relieve her soreness…"
She wanted Caleb to mention her concern before Marie, as having him relay the message would be more effective than her expressing it in person. At the same time, she hinted to him that Marie needed her.
Caleb might've missed the cue because he said, "You don't have to worry about Grandma. She has nursing staff with her; they're very impressive with their massages."
More impressive than Cecily's, of course. They were the same staff who looked after Marie when she was at the sanatorium all these months, so Caleb wasn't concerned.
At that point, Cecily could feel her chest heaving in anger. Had they not been on a video call, she would've rolled her eyes at him.
"Jeez. Does he have rocks for brains?" she complained silently.
Not giving up just yet, Cecily proceeded to ask about the Jensens. Then, Caleb recalled every word he heard from Hank.
"Hector plans to turn your room into some sort of pet playroom. I wanted to reason with him, but after thinking about how you left and how Grandma might feel sad at the sight of your empty room…"
Wasn't he the one who eagerly defended her? Why the sudden switch-up?
Given his current attitude, she might as well say goodbye to the chance of Marie taking her home. Worst of all, she couldn't even preserve her room at the Jensen residence!
"No, I can't rely on the Jensens anymore. I must use my own way to return to them!" she contemplated.
"System, you mentioned before that if I achieve a perfect affection level, I can freely draw from the other person's fortune, even absorbing them all at once. Is that correct?"
"That is correct, Cecily."
Hearing the system's robotic voice, Cecily slowly settled her heart, her expression gradually revealed a hint of malice. "And what happens if I want to absorb the fortune of all the Jensens at once?"
