The sky had darkened at some point, and light rain pattered.
In the lounge, Shannon listened to Lucy explain the origins of the doll. Her gaze once again fell on the doll in her hands.
After studying it for a moment, she suddenly grabbed the doll's head and twisted it off.
As the fabric tore with a hiss, everyone in the room was stunned by her sudden move.
Lucy instinctively clutched her neck. There was a strange sensation as if her head had been twisted off.
Shannon pulled out a utility knife and started scraping the back of the doll's head. After a few moments, she revealed a white, block-like substance.
Carlos couldn't help but lean in to ask, "What's that? It looks kinda familiar."
"It's crushed human bone," Shannon said.
Everyone gasped in horror. Carlos instinctively jumped back.
Lucy's face was pale, and her voice trembled. "How… How could there be crushed bones in the doll?
"My classmate who had an interest in dolls told me that in some countries, there are custom-made dolls that incorporate human remains.
"Such items, especially those with parts of the deceased, often become conduits for dark arts."
As Shannon explained, she turned to Lucy, "Since this doll was custom-made for you, it means that someone had their eye on your body from the beginning and…"
Lucy noticed her pause and asked with a quivering voice, "And what?"
"And your fortune."
Hector started suspecting her and discovered something wrong with the dolls in her doll room.
Fortunately, she had distributed other dolls, and one of them had gone to Lucy, a rising star. Even absorbing just one-third of Lucy's fortune was enough to store her original self.
As Cecily was lost in thought, she noticed her skin was beginning to darken again, turning sallow and dull.
She immediately panicked and asked the system about what was going on.
The system's cold, emotionless voice echoed in her mind, "Subsystem failed to seize Lucy's body. The energy of the main system is damaged. Emergency repairs will require borrowing some of Cecily's fortune."
"How has it failed? If you take my fortune, what am I supposed to do?"
Cecily fumed as she stared at her rapidly dulling face in the mirror.
