Bonnie's words stunned Ethan. His gaze flickered in panic and disbelief. In his husky voice, he asked, "What… did you say?"
As if satisfied by the damage her words had done, Bonnie no longer put on a facade and acted outwardly evil. "I said, she's not coming back."
She explained, "Before switching bodies, I sold myself to an old geezer in the mountains at a thousand dollars. Now that I think about it, she probably has been his wife for about five months now, perhaps even pregnant."
It felt as though thunder had struck Ethan when he heard her words. His ears rang, and he struggled to accept the harsh reality she had thrust upon him.
The livestream audience, initially in disbelief, now collectively became furious.
"Damn. This woman is awful!"
"She sold herself to the mountains and switched bodies with her best friend. That's no different than killing and burying her there!"
"Don't even call them best friends. That's not what the term means."
"Weren't they childhood friends? What on earth happened that made her so vengeful toward her friend?"
"Everyone knows the police struggle to save victims of such cases the most."
Typically, the villages were guarded by the locals to prevent outsiders from entering. Anyone who ventured in was unlikely to see the light of day again…
"I wanna cry thinking about all the girls we lost to cases like this."
"All human traffickers should get a death sentence!"
Realizing he had been going on a honeymoon with a fake wife while the love of his life was trapped in someone else's body experiencing inhumane torture, Ethan wanted to rip his heart out so he could stop feeling the pain.
At that point, any sense of good upbringing or composure he normally possessed became irrelevant.
He glared fiercely at Bonnie and, after a brief silence, let out a ferocious roar before lunging at her. While choking her, he couldn't help the tears streaming down his face, his voice full of despair and pain. "Why? Why? Why would you do that to her?"
What did Winona do wrong to deserve this treatment? What did she and Ethan do wrong?
Even in a chokehold, Bonnie couldn't believe Ethan, who had always been kind, could appear so menacing. Moreover, she was shocked that he would get violent with her. This was Winona's body he was hurting! Was he planning to kill his wife?
Terror brimmed in Bonnie's eyes as she began struggling for her life.
