Shannon originally thought Benjamin had just come back to this study to grab something. After all, he would normally be busy at the company at this hour.
She didn't think much of it and focused on drawing the spiritual energy from the room. But in the next moment, she felt a gentle and light air approaching her.
Shannon looked up and saw Benjamin squatting beside her at some point. The dazzling golden light from his presence almost blinded her once again,
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
In the past, Benjamin would never have considered offering his help to someone, but he always treated Shannon differently from others even though he didn't want to admit it.
Whether it was allowing her free access to his study, inviting her to stay for meals, or letting him sleep on his couch, these were things he'd never done before.
But when he remembered that she was his "fiancée" in name, it somehow felt like all this was justifiable.
And thinking this way, offering to help her didn't seem out of place anymore, especially since he did owe her a few favors.
Shannon was momentarily stunned by his offer. She blinked and forced herself to focus past the blinding light to meet his eyes.
His deep, dark pupils devoid of any dazzling glow conveyed only a genuine offer, making it difficult for people to refuse. She too found it hard to say no.
Recalling how the grudge from the infant spirit had dissipated when he grabbed it, she hesitated for a moment before slowly extending the hand holding the malachite talisman.
"Well… Can you hold my hand?" Shannon carefully asked.
At that moment, she finally understood why Kai had been so adamant about clinging to Benjamin and trying to make him his destined companion. If she were in his place, she'd want to cling to Benjamin too.
A golden light that could dispel all evil in the world and a man favored by the heavens was a silent temptation just standing there. Who wouldn't want to hold onto him?
Benjamin noticed her silence and tightened his grip on her hand slightly, thinking something was wrong.
Although he didn't know what purpose it served, he trusted she had her reason since she had asked for it.
Just as Shannon was about to speak and tell him everything was already fine, a familiar yet slightly sinister voice came from the doorway.
The voice carrying a hint of coldness asked ominously, "Benjamin, what do you think you're doing holding my sister's hand?"
