Shannon's sudden statement caught everyone in the room off guard.
For a second, they were stunned before all eyes turned to Greta without missing a beat. Among them, Wyatt's gaze was particularly sharp.
Greta's face went pale as if she were extremely nervous and unsure of what to do.
She glanced at Shannon, stammering, "What…. What do you mean? I don't understand."
"You're the only one who can interact with Reese, remove the talisman from her, and put it back without Mr. and Mrs. Gibson noticing. You must have taken the talisman off while bathing her, right?" Shannon spoke in a certain tone.
Greta's panicked confirmation was all the confirmation Wyatt needed. Without hesitation, he grabbed Greta by the collar and pulled her away from Greta's bed.
He angrily questioned, "Is what she's saying true? Did you tamper with Reese's talisman?"
"No, it wasn't me! Mr. Gibson, Mrs. Gibson, you know I've watched Reese grow up. How could I possibly harm her? It wasn't me…"
Greta's voice trembled as she desperately tried to explain. But despite her frantic denial, the guilt in her eyes didn't escape Wyatt's notice.
Finally snapping out of her shock, Mavis lost her composure. She screamed and rushed at Greta, abandoning all semblance of her usual dignified demeanor.
"Why? Reese loves you so much, and we treat you well! How could you do this?"
Caught off guard by a slap, Greta collapsed onto the floor in a fit of distress. "I didn't mean to harm Reese! Please trust me! I've practically raised her, and I'd never want to hurt her…
"I just… I just didn't want her to get better that quickly."
"Why?" Wyatt questioned in a deep cold voice.
Through her tears, Greta sobbed, "Ms. Gibson is gonna start first grade this year. Mrs. Gibson said once she starts school, I wouldn't need to put her to sleep every day, and I wouldn't need to take care of her so closely anymore.
"I was worried she wouldn't need me, so I thought of doing something to make her depend on me again… I didn't want to hurt her.
Upon hearing the true reason behind all of this, both Wyatt and Mavis were furious.
All of this suffering, just because of such a petty reason? Greta deliberately let Reese suffer just so she could keep her job?
Reese had grown up under Greta's care, so how could she be so cruel?
They had been devastated when Reese had been simply having trouble sleeping, let alone the fact that she had gone completely mad the previous night!
Furious, Wyatt's eyes turned icy as he started at Greta. Without hesitation, he pressed the button on the bedside phone and said, "Send security up here."
Then he turned back toward Greta. His eyes were icy. "For the sake of the years you've spent caring for Reese, I won't have you arrested.
"But you won't stay with the Gibsons any longer, and don't even think about getting a job as a nanny with other families in this circle.
"Someone like you is unfit to care for children."
