When the Shaw couple heard that the mastermind might hurt Emily again, they tensed up once more. Helen hugged Emily tightly as if to protect her.

Donald didn't doubt a single word Shannon said. He solemnly reported, "I already got people to check the surveillance cameras and see what happened when Emily went missing, but they didn't find anything.

"I can get them to continue the investigation, but I'm worried that they won't be able to discover more information that quickly. If…"

There was a chance that the mastermind could get a new expert to steal Emily's lifespan before the Shaws found out who was behind the whole thing. Donald didn't want to see Emily falling into an unconscious state again.

Thus, he pleaded, "Ms. Jensen, is there any other way for us to find out who the culprit is? Don't worry. As long as you can save my daughter, I'll give you anything you want."

After mulling it over, Shannon said, "It's not impossible."

Shannon took out a piece of candy from her pocket and placed it on Emily's bed. Emily's eyes lit up at once. Smiling, she said to Emily gently, "Emmie, shall we play a game? I'll treat you to some candy."

Emily stared longingly at the piece of candy, but she turned around and gave Helen a look to ask for permission.

Helen nodded at once. "She just wants to play with you, Emmie. Why don't you play with her for a while, okay?"

Since Helen didn't object, Emily smiled and took the candy before nodding happily in response to Shannon's earlier question.

Still smiling faintly, Shannon took out a thin red string and tied it around Emily's thumb that was used to seal the agreement. Then, she took out her brush and swiftly drew a tiny sigil on Emily's thumb.

Helen was confused, so Shannon explained, "Most of the time, people cast lifespan transfer spells by dropping money with one's hair sealed to it on the ground. As long as someone uses that money, that person's lifespan will be borrowed without their knowledge.

"This method is akin to casting a wide net. Usually, the receiver won't be able to get much of each of the victims' lifespans, and the victims won't notice a thing either. However, it is clear that Ms. Shaw was specifically selected for this. Plus, they even used an agreement to bind her to it. I'm guessing the culprit is familiar with her."

Helen gasped, and her eyes immediately turned red with anger and sorrow. Due to an injury, Emily became mentally disabled at a young age. Her life was already doomed to be more challenging. Why was someone coveting her lifespan as well?
