Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 2120

In the handmaiden's quarters of The Royal Palace, a handmaiden in formal attire walked stiffly along the narrow hallways.

Now and then, younger handmaidens greeted her with bows and soft voices, but she continued walking and said nothing.

The younger handmaidens exchanged glances. Though curious, none dared to probe further.

The handmaiden made her way deeper into the quarters until she reached her assigned residence. When she entered, the room was empty.

Her face was pale and expressionless as she moved mechanically to her bed, guided by distant memories. Then, she lay down and did not move.

Elsewhere, another handmaiden stepped out from Serelith's quarters and handed a pouch to Adelaide Lovell, the senior handmaiden overseeing this section of the palace.

Adelaide was appointed by Benjamin to assist Shannon. She was responsible for familiarizing Shannon with palace life, handling miscellaneous affairs, and protecting her from insignificant people.

It was also her duty to select the most suitable handmaiden to serve as the future queen's lady-in-waiting, who would one day serve as the queen's most trusted aide in the palace.

That position had attracted many eyes even before the royal coronation edict was announced. Now that it had been issued, the competition had become even more intense behind closed doors.

Now, Adelaide was their prime target of flattery.

Everyone in the palace knew that Adelaide had a disciple, and the position as the queen's lady-in-waiting was reserved for her.

But that disciple had vanished since yesterday. No matter how much Adelaide wished to recommend her to Serelith, the future queen, she couldn't if the disciple was missing.

That gave a handmaiden, Serena Wycliffe, an opening.

Serena's steps halted. It was as if invisible hands clutched her throat as she had to summon every ounce of her strength not to scream.

Frozen to the spot, she stared with eyes wide in terror.

Noticing her odd behavior standing at the door, her roommate, Skye Ashenford, happened to enter and curiously walked over. "Serena, why are you just standing there? Why aren't you going inside?"

When she looked into the room and saw who lay on the bed, her face lit up. She excitedly rushed forward and shook the handmaiden awake.

"Grace, where were you last night? Madam Lowell was furious; Why are you only showing up now?"

The handmaiden named Grace Fairborne stiffly sat up. Her pale face was unreadable, and her voice was hoarse and low as she said, "Nowhere."
