Solvanna's anguished cries had yet to be transmitted into the main house when the Oracle Council agents swiftly covered her mouth and dragged her away.
Whether she'd acted on her own will or had been led astray, she had to be sent to the Oracle Council prison. Even if they were merciful and chose to release her, returning to the Ignis family or staying in the capital would no longer be possible.
Her commotion outside failed to garner the attention of those in the main house. Even Elysia, who'd once cherished her most dearly, was utterly shaken by the sudden royal edict naming a new queen. She completely forgot about Solvanna.
As soon as the guests confirmed the content of the royal edict, they began offering their congratulations to Maeric. A coming-of-age ceremony and a royal wedding edict were a double blessing.
But none of them expected Benjamin not to be done yet.
Once the palace servants finished reading the royal edict, Benjamin raised a hand and motioned to the palace guards.
Moments later, everyone watched as two guards dragged forward a pale young man with a vicious glint in his eyes.
Those with even slight acquaintance with the Ignis family recognized him at once as Marcellus, the eldest son of the Ignis family.
Neither Marcellus nor Fenric had appeared for today's coming-of-age ceremony for the Ignis family daughters.
Elysia had claimed they were both gravely ill and avoided public appearances so they wouldn't spoil the festive mood.
Seeing Marcellus' ashen face and sickly appearance, a stark contrast to his usual energetic self, he sure looked like an ill patient.
But why would Benjamin summon a man in such a condition here?
Maeric and Elysia were equally bewildered. Watching as Marcellus was brought forward, their faces were still frozen in joy as they stepped forward with forced smiles.
They were going to inquire when Benjamin calmly said, "Now that Serelith's entry into the palace is settled, let's address Marcellus' setting fire to the future queen's courtyard."
The present guests instantly recalled the fire that had broken out earlier in Serelith's courtyard.
A blaze during a blessing ceremony was an ill omen, but in that fire, they had witnessed a phoenix rise, reborn, and soar into the heavens.
She knew that the king was not one to show mercy lightly, so she turned her pleas toward Serelith instead.
From the earlier edict, it was obvious how much the king valued her, so her words would surely carry weight.
"Serelith, please speak for Marcellus. He set the fire out of a moment's impulse, and you know how badly hurt he was. He must've been overwhelmed by it all and did something that foolish. You do understand that, don't you?
"We're family. Please help him."
Disregarding her dignity and pride as a mother, Elysia turned to Serelith and knelt before her.
But Shannon would never accept the plea or kneeling, nor would she allow herself to be guilt-tripped by the so-called familial affection.
Stepping aside, she showed no strong resistance toward the pleas but softened her tone slightly to say, "Though Marcellus resents me, and I was angered by his actions, I will not press this, since we are of one family."
