Solvanna called out to the Trueflame for the first time, but received no response. The flame inside her shrank back, unwilling to reveal itself.
Having already sensed the presence of another Trueflame, it dared not expose its position without knowing the other's strength.
The previously confident lady now found herself praying with no signs of any divine manifestation around her.
The surrounding guests began to whisper among themselves, their murmurs growing louder.
Under the weight of their skeptical and mocking gazes, Solvanna closed her eyes and pretended to pray again.
In her mind, though, she frantically called out to the Trueflame. "O' Trueflame! Please, reveal yourself!"
She pleaded yet again.
"If you do not reveal yourself today, I shall become the laughingstock of the entire kingdom. Not only will I forfeit my claim as the Chosen One, but I may also lose my very standing as a true-born daughter of the Ignis family."
By then, how would she achieve her ultimate goal?
She and it were now tied by the same thread, bound together in this delicate balance.
Perhaps the weight of Solvanna's plea finally stirred the entity hidden within her.
The guests watched in awe as a sudden burst of red flame erupted from the Phoenix Deity statue. The flames spiraled upwards, and soon, a fiery, crimson glow stretched across the sky.
The crowd gasped in astonishment, their voices filled with awe as the phenomenon unfolded.
Was this the divine manifestation of the phoenix? It appeared Solvanna was indeed the Chosen One! What did being the heiress of the Ignis family matter then?
Some guests gazed at Solvanna with a mixture of fervor and reverence, while others, younger in age, looked up at the fading crimson light in the sky.
They couldn't help but ask, "Is that all? Where is the phoenix? I figured we were meant to see it."
The voice wasn't loud, but it was clear enough for the entire gathering to hear. Some guests awkwardly chuckled, while others whispered reprimands.
At the center of the crowd, Solvanna's face darkened with embarrassment and irritation.
How ignorant! To witness such a divine manifestation once in a lifetime was a stroke of luck!
If not for her, these people wouldn't have had the privilege to see it, yet here they were, complaining about its brief duration!
"No wonder… O' Trueflame did not respond to me at first. Surely, it was… angered."
As siblings who had grown up together, both Solvanna and Marcellus' minds worked in eerie synchrony.
Her ambiguous statement instantly misled all the guests, who now looked at Serelith as though she were some sort of ominous figure.
Frankly, Shannon was surprised by the sudden inferno. Words like "misfortune" and "curse" rang repeatedly in her ears, but she remained unfazed.
She stepped forward, stood before the statue, and rested her eyes on Solvanna. "What makes you say that the fire is an omen of misfortune?"
She spoke the words calmly, then paid respect to the Phoenix Deity statue. Afterward, her hands formed a mudra, and she softly recited, "...I call upon the Phoenix Deity to descend."
The crowd could only vaguely catch the last part of her chant, but as the final words fell, it was as though a phoenix's cry echoed in their ears.
Before anyone could fully comprehend, someone in the crowd gasped, and all eyes turned toward the source.
Not far off, the thick black smoke still billowed, but in the next instant, a fire-colored phoenix shot out from the swirling smoke, soaring high into the sky, and circled beautifully…
