"You don't have one?" Shannon couldn't help but double-check, and her tone carried a hint of regret and disbelief.
She didn't say it out loud, but everyone could hear her unspoken thoughts. That shouldn't have been the case…
Tall and sturdy, Rhodes lowered his head and cowered a little under Shannon's question. A rare look of sorrow flashed across his face. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I don't have any chroyan branches."
It was rare for her to ask him about something. If he had one, would she consider keeping him close by from now on?
He didn't have to count on anyone for support. But still, he'd always been a little envious of Kai being able to stay by Shannon and Benjamin's side all the time.
Shannon hadn't expected him to take it so seriously and apologize, so she quickly reassured him, "It's fine. We were just asking. If you don't have one, we'll look elsewhere. It's not a problem."
Just after she spoke, a head popped over the courtyard wall. It was Bianca. She peered into the courtyard and looked at Shannon's group. "Chroyan branch? I know where to find one!"
Shannon was briefly stunned and instinctively asked, "What are you doing here?"
Bianca gave her a bright smile before her smile dropped, and her expression turned into one of pitiful sadness.
"I know I shouldn't be here looking for you… You're a nine-tailed fox now, while I'm just a lowly six-tailed. We're worlds apart, and I don't deserve to play with you anymore…"
Shannon stared at her expressionlessly and interrupted her. "Just tell us about the chroyan branch."
Seeing no one was going along with her little drama, Bianca gave up the act. Then, she swung over the wall and landed neatly in the courtyard.
She glanced at the cocooned Trevaris under the maple tree and gawked at him before saying, "You've seen the Soul Tree at Wynthorpe Manor. Legend says that the tree was nurtured from the spiritual energy of a chroyan branch."
Though it wasn't a true chroyan branch, it did carry some of Chrono Banyan's strength. Otherwise, it wouldn't have lasted for thousands of years as the Soul Tree of the Wynthorpe clan.
Shannon hadn't expected the chroyan branch to be nearby all along. Without delay, she and Benjamin headed straight for Wynthrope Manor.
Shannon had never wanted to gloat at him, and she didn't intend to even now.
Two years had passed since Caelan had putrified demon younglings of Zaprath School with putrefaction from Ghost Mist. Right now, the putrefaction was sealed tight within Krovia's territory with Rift barriers erected by neighboring countries.
Half of Krovia was collapsing under the contamination of nuclear wastewater as more Krovians were fleeing. Even their top shamans could do nothing.
Not long ago, Krovian officials had knelt in public and begged the world for help, but so far, no nation had responded. The barriers separating Krovia from the world remained firm.
At this rate, Krovia would turn into another Aethria within a decade.
Caelan's past wrongdoings were now mirrored by Krovia's fate and suffering their due punishment.
Shannon no longer paid them any attention as she had far more important things to do.
