Steen seethed. How dare Cornelius dump him in a panda conversation base in the form of an actual panda!

Before he could start wailing and scramble to escape, he was spotted by the base staff.

"Ah! A panda's gotten loose! Shouldn't all pandas have been brought back to their enclosures at this hour? How is there still one out here!"

"Quick! Catch it and bring it back in! We'll check where it escaped from!"

Steen was stunned. He turned around to make a run for it, but this was a base. More staff surrounded him in no time.

He dared not resist too hard for fear of accidentally hurting someone, so he started darting left and right. But he wasn't familiar with the base, and after zigzagging through unfamiliar paths, he darted straight into an empty panda enclosure.

The staff saw their chance and slammed the door shut.

Steen was utterly stunned. He was locked up!

Though he knew they wouldn't hurt him, this was closest to a breakdown he'd ever felt in his life.

Cornelius was just too cruel! Steen swore that if he got out, he was going to tattle to the demon lecturers and Raiden!

He went on sobbing.

He was terrible at spells in the first place, and perhaps from the blow of Cornelius' supernatural strength, he couldn't summon his supernatural powers at all.

That realization hit hard.

Though he'd always taken advantage of his panda identity and used it to get away with things, he'd never wanted to be an actual panda.

The thought sent Steen curling his chubby self into a little ball in the corner.

Just then, a middle-aged man in a work uniform came in carrying a basin of milk. Seeing the grumpy furball in the corner, he chuckled.

"We didn't find any pandas missing from the base. Where did you come from? Did you wander in from the nearby mountains?"

Steen's ears twitched, but he didn't look up. "Go away, human…" he murmured inwardly.

"But don't worry. I'll be the one taking care of you. I promise to fatten you up all nice and round."

Steen didn't care what he was saying. He wasn't staying here anyway. He'd be out of here as soon as his supernatural powers returned.

He was a rare and proud panda demon. There was no way he would accept being kept in an enclosure by humans, especially not with a bunch of regular pandas. That wouldn't make him special.

As he thought so, his chubby paws swiftly stripped the bamboo shoot, and he took a big bite.

Mmm… delicious.

Then, he took another crunchy bite.

He was a panda demon with principles and dreams. No matter how good the bamboo shoots tasted, he would never stay here as a pet panda.
