Marilyn had always known about Thalia's two children. But she hadn't expected the clan to go as far as to target Hector, an ordinary person with no supernatural powers.
For a brief moment, she hesitated before making up her mind. The seven tails behind her flared with supernatural energy and swayed before snapping into alignment. All were aimed at the barrier before her.
As her supernatural energy surged, the seven fiery tails charged forward with a sharp force straight toward the barrier.
But just before they could strike the barrier, a calm yet female authoritative voice called out in Marilyn's ear, "Marilyn."
The attack halted mid-air.
Marilyn's tails instantly quivered at the sound of the voice. She looked at Hector behind the barrier and gritted her teeth.
Then, she withdrew her tails and turned away to head toward another part of the manor.
She passed through the manor and arrived at a secluded courtyard. It was the same place where Reuben had once visited—Louise's residence.
Inside, the large screen had been changed, but the scene behind it remained the same. It showed a figure half-reclined on a white fur blanket, casual yet laced with undeniable authority, just like the voice earlier.
From the moment Marilyn stepped into the courtyard, she became noticeably more obedient.
As she approached the screen, she lowered her voice and called out, "Louise."
"Come here." Louise's voice remained level and revealed no particular emotion. Yet Marilyn hesitated for a second before stepping past the screen.
But Marilyn knew her too well. This reaction meant Louise was already displeased, but she continued, "If Thalia finds out, she'll lose her mind."
Though Thalia had been trapped in another world for 18 years and hadn't spent much time with her children, Marilyn knew she valued them deeply.
She knew of the clan's plans that spanned generations, but she couldn't understand why Louise and the clan elders insisted on targeting Thalia's children. After all, Louise cared about Thalia, didn't she?
The figure nestled in the white fur blanket shifted slightly and sat up a little straighter. Her gaze landed on Marilyn, and there was a faint, unreadable smile in her eyes as she said, "If she does lose her mind, so what?"
Louise remained cold and lazy. She absentmindedly whirled a lock of her white hair around her fingers as though Thalia wasn't of any concern.
Then, she added, "Plus, what makes you so sure that Hector isn't the one we're looking for?"
