Maya knew everyone was waiting to see her make a fool of herself, so she refused to let them get their way.
Her pride wouldn't allow her to hide in the shadows and lick her wounds. If they wanted to see her fall, she'd stand even taller.
What didn't defeat her would only make her stronger.
With these thoughts in mind, her expression grew colder and more arrogant. Her eyes fixed firmly on Shannon and Skylar on stage as if attempting to exert external pressure on them with her gaze.
Mike and the others were quietly whispering among themselves.
"What's she trying to do? Shannon is pretty, but she doesn't have to stare that much, right?"
"Honestly, her look reminds me of a vengeful spirit."
"Agreed. If she's dressed in all white, it'd be even more fitting."
"Don't say that. Her curly little hairstyle is kinda cool though. I've never tried perming my hair."
Shannon heard this and finally decided to join in the conversation. She turned to Mike, who'd been the last to speak. "Want me to help you?"
Her help would involve using talismans, of course.
Mike thought about it and asked, "Is it free?"
Shannon shook her head. "180 dollars per session."
Mike was stunned by her price and tried to bargain. Before the conversation could continue, a cough from Baxter drew everyone's attention.
Once the venue quieted down, he slowly began to speak. "Today marks the second round of the college tournament. According to the rules, each team must locate and eliminate the lingering attachment of the evil spirit in their ghost bottle.
Baxter looked at them and unhurriedly explained, "The second option is for you to recollect the dispersed ghastly energy of the evil spirits.
"Once you gather enough energy, you must locate the source of the lingering attachment and eliminate it."
Team Jamborough and Team Demon were utterly speechless. The ghastly energy was thoroughly dispersed. How were they supposed to collect any ghastly energy under these circumstances?
It was obvious that the first option was the only viable choice.
Baxter noticed their bitter expressions and didn't say anything further. Instead, he turned toward Shannon and asked, "Ms. Jensen, do you think the second option wouldn't work?"
Shannon felt puzzled as to why she was being called out, but she gave the question a serious thought since he'd asked.
"It's not entirely impossible either."
