Hank succumbed to his fate at last. Since he had to look after the Mini Stone Turtle, he decided to speak with Alex about withdrawing the dividend money in advance.
Although well over 18, he still received a fixed monthly allowance. After spending on customizing the stone turtle emerald pendant, buying Shannon an apartment, and purchasing the raw stones, he barely had any savings left.
To protect his life, he was determined to purchase more raw stones.
…
Meanwhile, Rhodes watched as Shannon made up lies to fool Hank with a straight face. Though confused, he didn't expose her. Suddenly, she cocked her head at him.
Immediately, he flashed her a pair of round, doe-like eyes full of innocence. She asked him, "I received your compensation. So, please leave and never come near here again."
The light in his eyes visibly dimmed, and even his long tail drooped down. "Oh, okay…"
His gruff voice hinted at his disappointment. "If I'm being honest, I'm afraid of the dark. Luckily, your garden here is lit with soft light. Sure, I'll go. Not sure any place will take me in for the night, though…
"But I'll be fine. I can stay under the bridge. That's where I always sleep, anyway. It's just that I hate the occasional rats running past me…"
He babbled on, his long tail dragging along the floor as he turned back to glance at Shannon every few words.
She was at a loss for words. From whom did this demon learn to put on a pity party?
Even Hank thought Rhodes was being dramatic. Unfortunately, for the latter, he had met the cold-blooded Shannon.
"Don't be fooled by her docile appearance. In reality, she's cold, unfeeling, and would never fall for such a sob story," he thought, shaking his head.
She remained expressionless and heartlessly declined. "I'm not, but I'll give you a business idea. You'll have to look after yourself regardless."
Rhodes wasn't disappointed. To him, providing him with a profiting business idea was no different than taking him in.
Recalling how he was asked to seek refuge tonight, he had an idea and proposed, "Ma'am, I see you have a small house outside the villa. Why don't I stay there? I don't take up much space in my true form, and I promise your family will never find out."
Scott and Hank, the family in question, had very much found out. They easily understood that he was eyeing Marshmallow's pet house.
Though it usually slept with Shannon at night, it would sometimes take its afternoon naps there.
They instinctively glanced at Shannon. As expected, she coldly rejected him. "No can do."
